In 2017, su***de was the second leading cause of death for African Americans ages 15 to 24.

Throughout Black History Month, Active Minds At USI wants to highlight black pioneers for mental health, starting with Bebe Moore Campbell. Bebe Moore Campbell was an American author, teacher, and mental health advocate who worked tirelessly to shed light on the mental health needs of the Black community and other underrepresented communities. She founded NAMI-Inglewood in a predominantly Black neighborhood to create a space that was safe for Black people to talk about mental health advocates.
