Breakaway roping showcases the incredible speed, skill, and precision of talented cowgirls. In this event, a rider ropes a calf, and the clock stops when the rope breaks away from the saddle horn—often in just a matter of seconds!

A huge thank you to Princeton Veterinary Hospital for sponsoring our Breakaway Roping event at the 2026 River City Rodeo. Not only are they supporting this exciting competition, but they also serve as the Official Animal Care Veterinarian of the rodeo, helping ensure the health and well-being of all our livestock throughout the weekend.
