πŸ“° A Blast from the Past: Lincoln High School

This architectural rendering, published in the Evansville Press on September 2, 1928, offered the community a first look at the new Lincoln High School before its doors ever opened.

Built after the site was purchased for $60,000 and constructed at a cost of approximately $275,000, Lincoln High School stood directly across from what is now the Evansville African American Museum.

During the era of segregation, Lincoln High was much more than a school. Dedicated educators served as mentors and role models, overcoming unequal funding and discrimination to create a place where students could learn, grow, and excel.

From championship athletics to outstanding music programs, student organizations, and academic achievement, generations of Lincoln Lions left a lasting mark on Evansville's history.

Today, visitors to the Evansville African American Museum can learn more about Lincoln High School in our permanent exhibit, where we preserve and share the stories of this remarkable institution and the people who made it so special.

Did you or a family member attend Lincoln High School? We'd love to hear your memories in the comments.
