"It is my pleasure to introduce the nationally and globally rare and endangered iliamna remota, more commonly known as the Kankakee Mallow. Iliamna remota is endemic to the 700-metre-long (2,300 ft) Langham Island in Kankakee River State Park. The first official documentation of the species was by Ellsworth Jerome Hill on June 29, 1872, while he was visiting the island. It is considered G1 imperiled, but today at Jens Jensen Gardens in Evanston, it is in bloom."

We are regularly visited these days in our Coach House pollinator garden by the Black-chinned Hummingbird (Archilochus alexandri). We hope you can come and visit as well! 2603 Sheridan Road Evanston.

A rare bloom! In our demonstration garden, by the greenhouse, just off Sheridan)

Dalea foliosa, commonly called leafy prairie clover, is a species of flowering plant in the legume family (Fabaceae). It is an endangered species in the United States, where it occurs in three states: Illinois, Tennessee, and Alabama. This plant was much more widespread in the past. As of 1997 there were 51 occurrences, mostly within the state of Tennessee. Most of these are in very poor condition and the species is in decline due to habitat loss from industrial development.
