Today, first year participants in the Lakou NFP Construction Training Program completed their final exam in Block Laying and Mortar, marking an important milestone in their first year of training.

Throughout the year, these young people have been gaining hands-on experience and practical knowledge across various areas of construction. The Block Laying and Mortar class challenged them to develop precision, patience, teamwork, and attention to detail essential skills for any successful construction professional.

Today we celebrate their achievement. Tomorrow they continue their journey, gaining new skills and expanding their knowledge as they work toward becoming the next generation of construction professionals.
When we invest in young people, we don't just build workers—we build leaders, builders, and the future of Haiti.

Two men.
Two different stages of the journey.
One shared mission.

Siver compacting the foundation as a foreman at IGSA.
Maxo preparing the site , continuing his path after graduating from Lakou NFP.

This is bigger than construction.

It’s mentorship.
It’s opportunity.
It’s Haitians building Haiti.

During Haitian Heritage Month, we celebrate more than history.
We celebrate the beauty of our land.
The richness of our communities.
The courage of our people.
And the connection we still have to each other no matter where we are in the world.

Haiti’s beauty is not artificial. It is raw, natural, and alive. From the green mountains overlooking the sea to the roads that connect villages and families, every part of this country carries a story.

This is the Haiti we want the world to see. 🇭🇹
A Haiti full of life, depth, culture, and quiet beauty.
A Haiti worth loving. Worth protecting. Worth believing in.

Meet MERA PIERRE JULES,
The first time MERA came to Lakou NFP, he had two concrete blocks in his hands during the entry test. That moment represented determination and the desire to create a better future for himself.
After successfully passing the selection process, MERA officially joined the Lakou NFP program. Since then, we’ve watched him grow every day ,learning new construction skills, working with the team, building friendships, and becoming more confident in himself.
Today, he is becoming part of a community of young people focused on growth, discipline, and opportunity.
Seeing MERA smiling, learning, and moving forward with the other participants reminds us why this work matters.
Travay di, yon direksyon, pou lontan.

Haiti is a country rich with culture, talent, resilience, and capable individuals. Yet because of Haiti’s complex history, many young people grow up without access to the opportunities, education, or resources needed to fully live out their dreams.

That reality is what inspired the creation of Lakou NFP in 2017.

Lakou was founded on one simple belief: if Haitians are equipped with quality education, real opportunities, and the right support, Haitians will change Haiti.

Since the beginning, our mission has gone beyond teaching construction. We are building people, families, communities, and a future. Through our Earn & Learn model, participants receive hands-on experience on real construction projects while also learning in the classroom. They develop practical skills, earn income to support their families, and gain the confidence to become leaders in their communities.

In a country highly vulnerable to hurricanes and earthquakes, Lakou also focuses on teaching disaster-resilient and earthquake-resistant construction techniques — because building stronger structures means protecting lives.

Today, seeing our graduates working alongside International Guild SA on projects like this in Les Cayes is a reminder of what Haiti truly is.

Haiti is not only beautiful because of its mountains, palm trees, and beaches.

Haiti is beautiful because of its people.
Because of what we are capable of building together.
Because of the future we continue to create with our own hands.

This is the Haiti we build. 🇭🇹
