District 65 Educator's Council

The five District 65 IEA local associations hosted a School Board candidate forum on Saturday, March 1st, 2025. All School Board candidates were invited to attend virtually.

Representatives from each association, which included local Presidents, were present. Moderator Bill Farmer, NEA Director and 202 educator, asked the candidates various questions ranging from fiscal responsibility to educator autonomy, after-school programming, and much more.

After thoughtful consideration and a robust discussion, the following candidates were endorsed by the five unions:

Chris Van Nostrand
Andrew Wymer

The local associations strongly believe in equity and diversity for all. We believe in partnering with the School Board and school leadership.

We look forward to and strongly encourage open communication and transparency to reach optimum results for all stakeholders, most importantly our students.

DEC members attended the board meeting last night, Monday, January 13th.

Four budget reduction scenarios were presented to address the current budget crisis.

DEC members. Don't forget about our ESCAA winter clothing drive. This January, bring gently used or new K-8 clothing items to school and place them in your ESCAA clothing bin, most likely located in the teacher's lounge!

We're back from a brief social media hiatus to announce that DEC is partnering with ESCCA to sponsor a 2025 clothing drive!

We're asking DEC members to donate gently worn or new children's clothing to each schools' ESCCA bin.

Yesterday, Monday Nov. 18, was a great day.

Our bargaining team reached a tentative agreement with the board and admins. We had MANY members and community members show up to the school board meeting.

We listened to a few inspiring speeches.

Thank you DEC bargaining team, for all of your collective efforts. We appreciate you getting us to this point.

Tomorrow, Monday, November 18, are DEC & D65 bargaining team's second official mediation session.

Meet our team at 5:30 at JEH before the school board meeting wearing red. We will show our support and let the board and community know we are united. Bring a friend!

Tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 12, is the first official mediation session between DEC & D65. Let's wish the team good luck as they continue the fight for a fair and just contract.
