S*xual Health and Assault Peer Educators was founded in 2006-2007 as an affiliate of the Northwestern University Health Service. Presently, we are under the care of the Center for Awareness, Response, and Education (CARE). SHAPE combats r**e culture and works to create a culture of healthy s*xuality through education, public events, and an open dialogue on s*xual health, s*x positivity, and s*xual
assault. SHAPE’s mission is to increase students’ comfort about s*xuality, encourage them to learn and adopt healthy behaviors and help them recognize and address unhealthy and dangerous behaviors and attitudes regarding s*xuality and relationships. It is important to remember that no one deserves to be assaulted, and that members of the Northwestern community are responsible for their own actions and for ensuring consent is present in every interaction. Members of SHAPE receive training from current SHAPE educators and Erin Clark, Director of CARE along with Northwestern’s Title IX Coordinator and Northwestern- or community-affiliated doctors, nurse practitioners, advocates, counselors, and other experts in the fields of s*xual health and s*xual assault prevention. SHAPE members have a wide, in-depth knowledge on a plethora of topics, including:
Consent and Healthy Communication
S*xual Assault, S*xual Violence, and Domestic Violence
Supporting Survivors
Safer S*x Methods and STIs
Intersectionality of Identities
LGBTQ+ S*xual Health and Inclusivity
Healthy Relationships
Reproductive Anatomy & Birth Control Methods
Title IX
And much, much more! The purpose of SHAPE is to increase students’ comfort with s*xuality, to encourage s*xually healthy behaviors, and to teach students how to recognize unhealthy and dangerous behaviors and attitudes regarding s*xuality. We aim to provide a safe space for students to ask questions, find resources, and of course get condom six packs! Come find CARE on the third floor of the Searle Health Center, at 633 Emerson Street. We have a large variety of condoms, l**e, chapstick, laptop stickers, and buttons (for free!!!)
