This is a good reminder and can help you get the most out of our limited water.

Have limited water? Prioritize plants that have the most value, then work down the list as your resources allow! Trees need at least 10 gal. per inch of trunk diameter each week during the summer. After trees, water shrubs and bushes. Prioritize perennial plants over annual plants (including gardens). Lawn grass should be given last priority.

🌾 Drought is part of living in Wyoming. This year… it might come early.

If it’s already this warm in March, now’s the time to start thinking ahead.

👉 Start planning with WYCHEX:

WYCHEX is a University of Wyoming–led effort helping agricultural producers and rural communities stay ahead of drought with practical, research-backed tools.

Here’s where to start:

✔️ Free tools + events

✔️ Publications + producer resources

No guesswork. Just real information built for Wyoming conditions.

Take a few minutes now to get ahead of what could be a tough year.

💬 What’s one thing you do to prepare for dry conditions?

Not all the friendly-looking plants you see are friendly! Keep an eye out for Dalmatian Toadflax, an aggressive invader that uses its pretty, snapdragon-like flowers to hide in plain sight. It may look like our native Golden Banner from afar, but the a closer look can reveal its identity.

If you spot this tenacious impostor, check out wyoweed.org/wyld-watch/ to learn how to report it!

The weather is warming up, and we have no excuse not to get outside! Fresh air and sunshine aren't just for the outdoorsy type. Find a nice walking path, pull out the lawn games, or toss a frisbee in the park — your body will thank you!
