Peace When Facing A Giant

“Then he took his staff in his hand and chose five smooth stones from the brook and put them in his shepherd’s pouch. His sling was in his hand, and he approached the Philistine. And the Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand…that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, and that all this assembly may know that the Lord saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hand. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. There was no sword in the hand of David.”

What is your “Giant”?
-Family Situation
-Job Situation
-Anxiety-Depression
-Physical Illness

How are your facing & fighting that “Giant”?
-In your own strength & with your own weapons?(King Saul’s armor didn’t fit & was useless I Sam 17:38-39)
-Or like David are you trusting the battle to the Lord & looking for His deliverance
-“No obstacle is too large and no circumstance is too menacing when you realize that God is sovereign over all”

Now God clearly tells us that in this world we will face trouble, trials & heartache & that “deliverance” may not come in the form of removal from the situation. It will come in the form of God being at our side through the trouble as our “Rock.”

Psalms 23:4 “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.”

Isaiah 26:3-4 “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.”

No matter what you are facing remember you are never alone. Keep your focus on God, remember His promises & trust Him to Deliver.

3rdF Devo Good Friday

And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on his right and one on his left.

Why did this have to happen & what does it mean for you, me & the entire world?

All are sinners & all fall short of God’s standard: Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

That sin brings with it a price Roman 6:23a (Death=Separation from God) For the wages of sin is death

But God out of love offers a free gift of deliverance: Romans 6:23b But the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord

Jesus Christ dying on that cross offers each individual the opportunity to receive salvation because of His work:

-He paid the price of death for us
-He satisfied the wrath & penalty that was meant for you & me
-We each have been freely offered to believe & accept this work that has been done on our behalf
-When we receive we are immediately transformed into a new creature (2 Cor 5:17) The old self is gone & the new person in Jesus Christ now lives
-John 3:16 is about God loving each of us so much that he made a way of rescue through His Son dying on the cross

Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, he was buried, & he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.

Knowing Jesus is Knowing Rest for your soul

28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (‭Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭28-30‬ ESV)

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.””

“A yoke is a wooden bar harnessed to the necks of a pair of oxen to bring them under submission and enable them to do the work that the farmer has for them. To train younger oxen, farmers would yoke them to older, experienced oxen. It provided maturation and development.
Hooking to Jesus’s “yoke” enables you to learn how to live. Therein you will find rest. When you come to Jesus, he gives you rest in terms of your salvation. When you accept the yoke of discipleship, you find rest and experience it in your daily life.”

-We need friends(F3Brothers) who will challenge and sharpen our thinking, help us make good decisions, and help us hone our physical, emotional & spiritual lives until they are razor-sharp.

-Good friends work to rub off dull edges and make each other better.

-How are you being sharpened?

Seek community, Seek accountability & Seek to sharpen & be sharpened
