Today had not been easy! After rushing Ernie to BluePearl Pet Hospital in Augusta, and consulting his regular vet, we made the extremely difficult decision to let Ernie go. Testing showed extremely high ammonia levels which is indicative of liver failure and possibly a shunt. After discussing things with his vet, such as his age, how long Ernie had been struggling with this, what things may look like moving forward, and potential costs we decided with the heaviest of hearts to let Ernie go and be pain free.

Ernie’s estimate just to overnight, before any ultrasound or internist consult was $3100-$4600. The 3 hours today alone wound up being $1300 and that doesn’t count his cremation and urn Roman picked out.

Rescue is not easy and these decisions always weigh extremely heavy on our hearts. The balance of funding and realistic outcomes is not easy task. What we know though is Ernie knew love and it was because of that love we didn’t want him to suffer anymore.

Please help us cover these expenses today do we can make sure we honor Ernie by saving another.

Toffee is an 8-month-old, 40 lb mixed breed with the softest eyes and the sweetest soul. At home, Toffee is a happy, playful, and affectionate girl. She loves romping around with her dog friends, playing hard, and then settling in for some cozy cuddle time. She’s dog and cat friendly, house & crate trained, and thrives in a home environment where she feels safe and operates on routine. Like many sensitive pups, Toffee is still building her confidence in the big outside world. New environments can make her a bit timid at first, but this is something we are working with her on. Patience and encouragement will be huge as she continues to build that confidence.

Toffee’s ideal home:
• Must have a confident, well-adjusted adult dog.
• A patient, understanding family willing to continue building her confidence
• A home WITHOUT young children (she’s still unsure of younger kids)

Toffee is also still working on her car confidence, as that is currently her biggest fear, but she’s making progress with positive experiences, some desensitization work, patience, and time. This sweet girl doesn’t need perfection—she just needs someone willing to go at her pace, cheer her on, and show her how wonderful the world can be.

** Toffee is currently fostered in Evans, GA but is available for adoption throughout much of the U.S. due to our in house transport program. Adoption fee includes transport cost. To apply for Toffee please copy and paste the link below into your browser and complete.

We’re going to need some help!! Both in prayers and donations please.

Not a great update on Ernie.

So Dr Ford is at a loss. Ruled out Addisons Disease, Ruled out Pancreatic Disease issues, blood work is completely normal. Now he needs to see internal medicine specialist and then possibly oncology. She says she wouldn’t even rule out a brain tumor at this point and that wouldn’t show on any blood work. He’s still losing weight despite eating better. She’s going to put in the referral tonight. 😩

Asking for good vibes ... our little Ernie is headed back to the vet not doing well. Although he has been eating and drinking well (which was a huge win) we are back to a lot of vomiting and very minimal 💩.

We are still very unsure what is going on. He's not really "classic" anything so he's been a tough one for our vet to diagnose. Dr. Ford at Burke County Animal Hospital is running some more tests today and he'll be staying overnight. We did learn he is likely closer to 10 years old vs 5. This poor guy just needs a break :(. We just want to make him feel better!

If you'd like to help us with Ernie's care please considering donating
