Domestic Violence Awareness Month was first introduced back in 1981 by the National Coalition Against Domestic violence. It was created not only to bring more awareness to others but to connect and unify the millions of affected victims that had been battered due to domestic violence.

Every year, right around 10 million people become victims of domestic violence, which equates to just about 20 people every minute. It affects not only women, but men and children, of all different races, status, religions, and culture. No one is immune to it, it does not discriminate.

Meet our Fatality Review Committee Chair, Amber Brantley. Amber is the Senior Assistant District Attorney of the Columbia Judicial Circuit. She joined the task force because she has a heart for domestic violence cases. She loves to serve her community and protect our victims from further violence.

The Fatality Review Committee conducts case reviews on intimate partner fatalities that are considered "closed" by the judicial system. They also track the intimate partner fatalities in our judicial system. We then report these numbers to the Georgia Commission on Family Violence.
