Specialist Juno M. LeGrand-Cochilus, American Hero
630th Engineer Company (Route Clearance)
7th Engineer Battalion, Fort Drum, New York
Killed In Action on 02 May 2012 in Wardak Province, Afghanistan
Specialist Junot M. LeGrand-Cochilus was a Combat Engineer stationed at Fort Drum, NY. He was a native of Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. After the devastating earthquake that ravaged Haiti, Junot answered a calling to make a difference in his country. His life’s work, even while conducting route clearance operations in Afghanistan, was Grace Children’s Home in Corix-de-Bouquet, Haiti (the first children’s home funded by the Haiti Orphan Foundation), which he founded. He constantly made phone calls to help raise money and coordinate for donations to help the children during his down time in Afghanistan. While on leave from the fight in Afghanistan, he went to Haiti to work with the children. The foundation could not have been possible without Juno’s vision, hard work, and inspiration.
My name is Makayla Rast, the Junior Ambassador of the Haiti Orphan Foundation. I am 9 years old and live in Evans Mills, NY. I attend Indian River Intermediate School. I like helping children and homeless people. My Daddy went to Juno’s funeral. I heard him talking to my Mommy about Juno and I always wanted to help the kids in the orphanage. I love helping Soldier’s and kids and I want to follow in Juno’s footsteps. My goal is to raise $20,000 for a playground for the boys and also to help start an orphanage for girls in Haiti. His vision is now my vision. Please help me help these children. My email address is [email protected] or http://www.facebook.com/pages/Army-Brat-helping-Haitian-Orphans/426669737398021.
