Since 1996, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever in Nebraska, in partnership with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, has offered opportunities for youth ages 12-15 who have completed a Hunter Education course to attend a ‘Youth Mentor Hunt.’
Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever chapters in Nebraska have had over 17,000 youth attend a hunt since its inception.
Youth who enroll in the program are provided instruction on a variety of topics such as dog training, hunter safety, blue rock shooting, asking landowners for permission to hunt, and much more in a one-day event. The day culminates with an actual pheasant or dove hunt with a mentor and dog handler.
This program has been very successful in getting interested youth hunters into the field, especially those youth who have a strong interest but limited opportunities to hunt.
