Look at this awesome find! 🤩

Vicki Taylor was metal detecting at a property in Eustace and found this soda fountain coin from the AD Surles Drug Store.

For those unaware, the AD Surles Drug Store is the building next to the police station with the rX symbol at the top. It has been zoned as a residence for about 50 years give or take.

It’s rumored to have been a movie theater at one point and also a mortuary at some point.

Before the hospital was built and opened in the 2 story building at the end, the doctor would perform surgeries upstairs under the skylight.

What an amazing piece of history!

I just received this message from someone hoping to find any info about Fredrick Syrett. If you have any helpful information at all, please contact the email listed below.

Hello, I am looking for historical/genealogy information to help solve a family mystery.
Please feel free to pass this information on. My email contact is [email protected]
We have found that my grandfather Fredrick Syrett moved to Eustace, Texas in the late 1940's. The 1950 census shows him living in Precinct 1 of Eustace. His neighbors in the census appear to be farmers with the names Fife,Stevens,Richardson,Adair,Slayton,Neil,Green,Foster,Whitehead, and Youngblood. Fred was 67 and his new wife Imogene I Syrett was 53. We don't know her maiden name but it lists her as Texas born. The only other fact we have is that Fredrick died in 1954. The death certificate states he died of cancer after living for 18 months in Cray's Home(run by Mrs Cray) in Eustace. Arrangements were by Carrell and Lehr Funeral Home.

Thank you for any information you may have.

Operation = Hallmark Christmas Town is underway!

We need your help!! 🎄

We are looking for some things to continue to decorate this entire row (plus the other side not shown). The police station, old hardware store, etc….

Does anyone have some of these outdoor items they’d like to donate?

🎄 Wreaths
🎄 Artificial Christmas trees 🎄
🎄 Lighted lamp posts (decoration)
🎄 Lighted presents 🎁
🎄 Classic traditional decorations for a beautiful look on the sidewalks

So if you’re sorting things and come across anything or feel inclined at the store to grab something that would be awesome!
Please nothing broken or that needs to just be trashed.

We’ve been so busy lately and progress has been a little slower but we got new gutters behind our building and so did the police station 🎉 This will help tremendously with an ongoing water issue. Next step is to continue the cleanup of the back areas.

So a really cool discovery made was these little bottles behind our building. (Was one of the 2 drug stores: Surles Drug Store) The larger bottle is approx from the 1940’s - 1950’s based on what we’ve been able to research about it. Not sure yet on the little bottle. But how cool, right? Makes this daunting task of removing one million stepping stones and random items a little more exciting 😅😂

We have some other much more exciting projects coming up in the future….

Pioneer Day in the Square was amazing yesterday! The city and mayor put together a truly fun day! There were lots of vendors, fun games, bounce houses, live music , raffles and so much more!

I wish I had taken more photos but between guests coming in the Market, shopping with vendors and walking around with kids to the fun activities I didn’t have the chance. If you missed it, it was a fun day and you’ll certainly need to come out next year.
