Companion Animal Foundation Our Community Adoption Center is a place for enjoyment and education. We love being able to provide this unique experience to our community!

Companion Animal Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit animal rescue organization formed in 2002 in response to the high euthanasia rate of adoptable animals in Humboldt County. This is where we keep our healthy adoptable kittens (and pups) so that the public can help them socialize by visiting during open hours. The Community Adoption Center is currently open to the public from 12-4 on Wednesday, 1-6 on Thursday, 12-4 on Friday and 11-3 on Saturday. Our hours change in the winter (usually in January) so please call us at 707-296-4629 to check that we are open before you come by. We often have puppies so if you’re looking to adopt a pup, please call ahead to check and see what we have. The puppies are available to visit during the same hours. We are more than happy to let adult visitors take the puppies on walks if they have time! Visiting is available to all ages, but anyone under 16 years of age needs to be accompanied by an adult guardian. All adult visitors need to provide a photo ID before entering the adoption room and please plan on leaving your photo ID with a staff person if you want to take our puppies for a walk.

Sweet Pippa was found with another lovely dog a few months ago. They have been gracious guests at our adoption center since then but are very ready to find their loving, stable homes.
Pippa is likely a border collie/McNab shepherd/lab mix. She is a very smart dog, motivated to learn by her intelligence and eagerness for treats! She absolutely loves the water and swimming. She is a playful girl who enjoys walks, adventures and toys. Pippa walks well on or off a lead and her voice recall is improving. She bonds well to her caregivers. She is learning to redirect her puppy energy to not jump on people. She will thrive in a home that will help guide her with clear, consistent boundaries and opportunities for lots of exercise and stimulation. Pippa would be a perfect hiking or running partner. She tends to beq quiet; she mostly just barks when she feels the need to alert to a new situation or people.
Pippa does well with other dogs and after an initial introduction loves new people. She is a bit submissive with her buddy Patsy. Pippa would really enjoy another dog in her new home for companionship and playtime. Pippa has been quite interested in the cats at our adoption center so a family with no cats would probably be best for her.
Pippa is about a year old, weighs around 50 pounds, is spayed, up to date on vaccines, dewormed, and will be microchipped before going to her new home. There is a fee for her adoption.
If you would like to meet Pippa or her pal Patsy, please contact Companion Animal Foundation at 707-296-4629 or come to 3954 Jacobs Ave., just north of Eureka, Wednesday through Friday noon to 4 or Saturday 11 to 3.

This lovely year-old girl was adondoned with another sweet dog several months ago. They have been gracious guests at our adoption center but are so eager to find loving, stable homes.
Patsy is likely a border collie/Mcnab shepherd/lab mix with such a big heart! She is smart and very food motivated, which helps with her training. She is playful and loves her toys. Swimming is a very favorite activity. Patsy walks well on or off a lead and her voice recall is improving. She is an exuberant puppy so is learning to not jump on people. She will thrive in a home that will help guide her with clear, consistent boundaries and give her a chance for plenty of exercise and stimulation. Patsy is a loyal companion and would be a wonderful hiking or running partner. She does not bark much, although she does have watchdog tendencies with strangers.
Patsy is good with other dogs and people. She should adapt easily to a home with cats as she has been indifferent to the cats she's met at our adoption center. A house without toddlers would be best for her. Ideally there would be a dog buddy in her new home for company and playtime, although she needs some fine tuning around respecting other dogs' food and treats.
Patsy is about 50 pounds, spayed, up to date on vaccines, dewormed, and will be microchipped before going to her new home. There is a fee for her adoption.
If you would like to meet Patsy or her pal Pippa, please contact Companion Animal Foundation at 707-296-4629 or come to 3954 Jacobs Ave., just north of Eureka, Wednesday through Friday noon to 4 or Saturday 11 to 3.

Hello Humboldt friends and supporters,
A local woman who traps feral and community cats and gets them spayed/neutered, vaccinated and veterinary care will soon be working with a new cat colony. The kitties are about 6 months old, all black, genders currently unknown, and not socialized.
She is hoping to identify some people who would be interested in giving these cats a chance for a safe, stable life by giving them new homes as barn cats. To successfully acclimate these cats to an unfamiliar area, there is a protocol to follow. This involves keeping them safely contained in large crates, a barn, catio, shed, etc. for at least two months, establishing regular feeding times, and other guidelines.
If you or anyone you know would be interested in this, please reply here or contact Liz at 707 496-9623 or [email protected].

Thank you.

This photo is my (Liz's) two "wobbly" cats for visibility! They are obviously couch potatoes, not barn cats!

Update: A wonderful adopter who has two other CAF kitties has added sweet Joplin to her family. Thank you, Nanette!
Thanks to all of you for your support and shares.
And huge thanks to the foster who cared for Joplin, her momma and littermates for months, and adopted two of the kittens.

This kitten was recently adopted but the life situation of the adopter changed unexpectedly so this darling is looking for a new home. She is currently in foster with her littermates in Eureka.

Joplin is oh so soft, she loves lap time and pets. She has a charming white stripe down her black face. She is an independent little kitty, choosing her own time for cuddles. She is very curious and playful. She was born on June 1.
Joplin is very well socialized, raised in a home with her mom, littermates and a dog. She would likely do best in a home with another cat since she really likes playing, wrestling and cuddling with her sisters.
Joplin is spayed, up to date on vaccines, FIV/FELV negative, dewormed and litter box trained. Probably best as an indoor or catio kitty.
There is an adoption fee for her rehoming.
Joplin is currently in foster with her littermates. Contact Liz at 707 496-9623 or [email protected] for a meet and greet.
Thank you.

Urgent new home needed for 2 cats (or a foster until a furever home is found). Their guardian is losing her home due to unforeseen circumstances related to declining health and is looking for a loving home for her cats.
Luna (black and white) was rescued from a feral cat colony years ago. She is about 7 years old, spayed and up to date on rabies vaccine. She likes to spend some time outside but could likely adapt to a catio situation. Huckleberry (gray boy) is about 16 years old, neutered and up to date on rabies vaccine. He is a real cuddler. He likely has some level of arthritis that would benefit from treatment or supplements.
They are litter box trained. There is a small rehoming fee for these darling kitties. These cats are currently at their home in Eureka (they can only be there until the end of October!)
If you are able to help these cats, please call or text Liz at 707 496-9623 or email [email protected]
Please share.
Thank you!
