Donor Spotlight: Adalynn “Addy” McMahon Peacock

At just 8 years old, Addy already has a special appreciation for the library.

“In my opinion, the library is a great place to learn and have fun. The librarians help you find books you didn’t even know about. I think everyone enjoys a great book from the library because books are like an adventure in your mind.”

Addy also loves attending story hour with her younger siblings, Clara, 5, and Milo, 2.

“All in all, the library has something for everyone.”

Addy comes from a family of library supporters, including her mom, Morgan McMahon, and her great-grandmother. It is a wonderful reminder that a love of libraries can be shared across generations.

Thank you to the families who support the Humboldt Library Foundation and help make our libraries places where children can learn and discover a love of reading.

A new resource is now available for anyone interested in exploring Humboldt County’s history and genealogy! Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Humboldt Library Foundation purchased a laptop for the Humboldt Room at the Eureka Main Library dedicated to “Humboldt County Pioneer Families and Related Parties 1853–1930,” a genealogy database created by Larry Allen.

What began as Larry’s research into his own Humboldt County ancestors grew into an incredible collection of more than 77,000 people and their family connections. The database is available for anyone to explore. Stop by the Humboldt Room at the Eureka Main Library and discover a new connection to Humboldt County’s past.

Help us continue making resources like this available to our community. Your donation supports programs, tools and opportunities that keep Humboldt County libraries thriving.

Donor Spotlight: Kenzie Mullen

Kenzie Mullen has devoted her life to libraries and the communities they serve.

Her career began in Crescent City, where she worked at the Crescent City Library and drove the Bookmobile throughout beautiful Del Norte County. After three years, she moved to Humboldt County, serving at the Eureka Main Library, the Arcata Branch for seven years and, finally, the Trinidad Library for 30 years.

Throughout her career, Kenzie loved helping patrons connect with the resources they needed. She also saw firsthand the meaningful and lasting impact that libraries and the Bookmobile can have on people’s lives.

Kenzie and her husband, Mike, have included the Humboldt Library Foundation in their estate plan to ensure that their support continues well into the future. Kenzie hopes their gift will help the Library not only survive, but thrive for generations to come.

Thank you, Kenzie, for your lifetime of service to our library system, and thank you to both Kenzie and Mike for investing in its future.

Summer road trip? In this economy?

If high gas prices are keeping you closer to home, let a great book take you somewhere new instead. Revisit a classic like On the Road by Jack Kerouac, or discover a contemporary favorite like The Road to Tender Hearts. Travel stories offer adventure, discovery, and escape, with no packing required.

Your next journey could begin with a library card. With support from the Humboldt Library Foundation, plenty of travel and adventure books are waiting to take you places.

Stop by your local library, choose your next destination, and start your staycation between the pages.

We’re thrilled to support the 51st annual Children’s Author Festival with a $5,000 contribution! Humboldt Library Foundation Board Vice President Peter LaVallee recently presented the check to festival coordinators Linda Lorvig, Joan Williams and Becky Giacomini.

Taking place October 14–17, 2026, this beloved festival will once again bring authors, stories and the joy of reading to children throughout Humboldt County. We’re proud to help make this special tradition possible.
