The Rotary Club of Old Town Eureka is lucky to have two awesome new members who (as a side benefit) really bring down the average age of the club. Of course I am talking about Chetna and Ishika Sidhu. These College of the Redwoods Students have brought new energy to the old guard, so President Keith suggested we focus on the sisters in this edition of Member Spotlight.
Born in India, Chetna and Ishika grew up in Michigan, and recently moved to Humboldt with their family at the request of their parents’ employer. It was a timely move for the sisters as their university was closing and they needed a transfer; they found College of the Redwoods the perfect fit. Both pre-med biology students, the sisters have differing minor concentrations. Chetna, is interested in Business, while Ishika is minoring in geology - a fitting concentration for the county that hosts the triple junction.
The two sisters as we know them are actually half of “the sisters four” including their younger siblings, Janhvi and Skriti, Eureka High students, and members of the “EHS Players” the talented theater group. Talents abound in the sisters four, Chetna is a certified numerologist, Ishika is a cultured pearl specialist, they both write poetry. They are learning Italian by reading Italian comic books. Chetna and Ishika are active in many clubs on the CR campus, such as the Asian-Pacific Islanders club, System Impacted Student Union, and Art Club; they founded the Writers Club - and restarted the school newspaper. Also known for their are of the crows on campus, the sisters’ favorite crow is named Achilles, they say he is a “sassy guy”. They tell me the crows are divas, while the ravens are much more classy.
Chetna and Ishika’s interest in Rotary began when Chetna was volunteering at a local library in Adrian, Michigan. The librarian, a Rotarian, nominated her for the “Service Above Self Award” and shortly after they joined the Adrian Morning Rotary Club. They were members there for about a year prior to moving to Humboldt. At a Tuesday event on the CR campus they noticed President Keith wearing his Rotary tie and asked him about it. Keith suggested they join our club and, lucky for us, they agreed. Full of talent and enthusiasm, these two new members have added energy to Old Town Rotary, and we are thankful for their commitment to service above self!
