Today, we celebrate our non-binary and gender non-conforming community at the start of International Non-binary People’s Awareness Week!

What does it mean to be non-binary?

💛 Non-binary is an identity embraced by some people who do not identify exclusively as a man or a woman.

🤍 Non-binary people may identify as being both a man and a woman, somewhere in between or as falling completely outside of these categories.

💜 While many also identify as transgender, not all non-binary people do.

🖤 Non-binary can also be used as an umbrella term encompassing identities such as agender, bigender, genderq***r or gender fluid.

BREAKING🚨🏳️‍🌈 Mexico’s first openly gay mayor was just shot in the head inside an ice cream shop in Guadalajara. He wasn't identified for two days.

It happened the night of July 7. Benjamin Medrano was getting ice cream when a gunman wearing a motorcycle helmet walked in, shot him in the head at close range, and fled on a motorcycle.

Neighbors reported hearing several shots. By the time emergency crews arrived, he was already dead at the scene, as El Universal's Irma Mejía first reported.

He was 59. The prosecutor's office in Zacatecas later confirmed he died from a gunshot wound to the skull. Because he wasn't carrying identification, his body went unidentified until early Friday, when a relative confirmed who he was.

Medrano's life was a first for the country. Born in Nochistlán into a poor family with eleven siblings, he toured Mexico and the United States as a child musician, later recorded albums of ranchera and ballads, and ran a gay nightclub in Fresnillo.

In 2013 he was elected mayor of Fresnillo becoming the first openly gay citizen in Mexico's history elected municipal president.

He was against gay marriage and regarding his sexuality he said “It's not like I'm going to paint city hall pink."
