Shaded Fuel Break Phase 2 of the Greater Willow Creek Wildfire Resilience Project is underway! This 52-acre project will help protect critical infrastructure, including medical centers, public agency offices, public utilities, and a school. Crews are hand thinning small trees and shrubs and pruning limbs of remaining trees, followed by lop and scatter and pile burning. A 4000-gallon foldable water storage tank is on site as a precautionary measure for pile burning, emphasizing the attention to detail and safety that our on-the-ground contractors utilize.

Pile burning will begin soon; please look out for prescribed burn signs along Hwy 96 and the bottom of Brannan Mountain Rd and do not report. Thank you!

This project was funded by a USDA Forest Service Community Wildfire Defense Grant. This institution is an equal opportunity provider.

The HCRCD Ag team presented last week at .agriculturalprograms “Assessing Funding for Farmers” event. There, they shared the resources that the RCD provides, including creating whole-farm conservation plans. These free plans are tailored to each operation and highlight areas to make the property more environmentally friendly. From there, the RCD knows what kind of funding you need and helps reach out with opportunities that would best fit your needs and goals. If you are interested in a plan, join the waitlist on our website. Link in bio!
