Over the past three years, home prices have skyrocketed resulting in the average starter home costing arou
nd 48% more. With higher mortgage rates, the income it takes to purchase a "starter" home has risen by 86%. The estimated required income for a median priced two-bedroom home in St. Louis is $41,849 while the average income in the state of Missouri for our beneficiaries is $27,750 - $35,780.
[Our Why]
As former healthcare professionals and current realtors, we have seen each side to the dilemma and decided to make a change and help those who have committed themselves to helping us every day. Having had backgrounds as a registered nurse and as a certified child life specialist, we have experienced firsthand the burnout and compassion fatigue that can come from caring for others day after day while being asked to take on a greater emotional and mental load, increased hours, and increased workload without adequate compensation for doing this vital work. We truly empathize with what our future beneficiaries are experiencing and the lack of support available to them while they dedicate their lives to helping others. Understanding that these professionals live under a multitude of different circumstances and may not have a hand to help when it comes to affordable housing, we’re offering the key to open a new door. Keys to Change is our passion project dreamt up from our life, community, and career experiences and our innate desire to help people and watch them grow.

Keys to Change is excited to award both housing and education grants to those in the related fields to ensure safety, growth and community to those wanting to take the next step in their life. Whether it is as a homeowner or to advance their education and continue on their hero status, we hope to help in the growth of the field, all while helping them reach their goals.
