SOME WILL JUDGE YOUR POUR, POUR ANYWAYđ
When the woman [called a harlot in Lukeâs account] comes into the home of Simon, she begins to weep at Jesusâ feet, wiping them with her hair. She takes a bottle, the famous alabaster box, and pours expensive perfume on His feet.
The Pharisee, Simon, says to himself, âclearly Jesus doesnât know she is harlot.â Luke 7:36-50
The disciples get angry and accuse Jesus saying the woman has wasted this and this could have been used better for the ministry. Matthew 6:6-13
Neither of the two perspectives say anything about the precious woman worshipping at Jesusâ feet, but it spoke loudly about the internal state of both the Pharisee and the disciples.
The Pharisee was just worried about how it LOOKED.
The disciples were concerned with how it impacted the MINISTRY.
A true authentic pour from a worshipper who loves much because of the depth of their forgiveness will cause what is inside men to be revealed. It will cause their real concerns to bubble up to the top. The woman had one concern, worship Jesus, but sadly those surrounding Him who were versed in His word, servants of His temple and even the new disciples who would one day carry His message around the world did not honor the worship.
Again, this says NOTHING about the woman worshipping.
Some will be so overly concerned with how you LOOK when you worship God that they will judge YOU. [The Religious]
Others will be so concerned with how your pour is impacting the people around you that they will judge the MINISTRY. [The Disciples]
Yet Jesus will look and say, âTherefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgivenâfor she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.â Luke 7:47
No one who is truly worshipping God with an authentic pour that comes from true gratitude for the forgiveness of their sins will have anything to say about how extravagant your love or expression of love is for Him.
Forgive the Pharisees who judge you, they judge themselves too.
Forgive the disciples trying to protect the ministry, theyâre trying to protect themselves too.
Keep pouring all that expensive oil, waste it all on Him. He is worth it.đ¤
