Hello hello!!

Welcome to this little corner of social media! I thought it was finally time for an introduction.

My name is Kassaundra Lynn. You may know me from .co. I’m a community herbalist here, in Eugene, OR. I moved here almost 5 years ago, but grew up in the PNW. It’s a pretty magical place!

I’ve been practicing herbalism for about 15 years now, but started Rooted Remedies just over 5 years ago. Wanting a space to gather people and teach, I opened The Community Apothecary just this year (2/1/26)!

Im fortunate and privileged to be doing what I love as a way to make a living. It’s been such a delight getting to share my love for the plant with others, and creating a space the community can utilize for their events as well.

I’m excited you’re here and I’m to see what else transpires at The Community Apothecary!

There’s a lot of fun things happening this weekend at The Community Apothecary!!

First Friday Artwalk to start it off. Come in and enjoy the wonder of Kris’s colorful artwork. 5:30-8p on April 3rd.

Saturday, April 4th, Kassaundra has teamed up with Friends of Buford Park for another Restorative Wildcrafting Workshop. A chance to learn how herbalism and tending to the land overlap. For April’s First Friday Artwalk, The Community Apothecarg is hosting Kris Owen Norris ( ).

Art can be a portal for all sorts of healing and cathartic experiences, including joy. Kris discovered watercolors during the pandemic, leading to an exploration of color and whimsy. Refusing to do anything without all the colors of the rainbow, she calls her artwork, her “inner third grader”, because her 8 year old self would love all the rainbows!

What is an Apothecary?

The word, Apothecary, has quite a long history and has shifted and changed over the years. And yet, the word Apothecary stirs up a common idea when people hear it. Before remodeling, The Community Apothecary was exactly what you might think of - a store that makes and sells compounds for medicinal purposes (more often than not, with an herbal foundation).

With this new iteration of the space, we wanted to expand on the original meaning of being a place where medicine is created. Gathering community, Building relationships, and Growing into a more resilient future together is a foundational aspect of medicine.

The goal is, and has always been, to strengthen community through gathering and connecting.

The Community Apothecary is ready to host your next event! We can’t wait to see what you create!

Wild Violet (Viola sp)

A few weeks ago, a friend asked why I chose Wild Violet to be the logo and represent the business.

A little bit about Violet:

Wild Violet is tenacious, to say the least. They have adapted their ways to reproductivity to guarantee success. From spreading through underground rhizomes and closing their petals and turning toward the ground on cloudy, rainy days to protect their pollen from washing away, to having a literal landing strip with colored veins to direct pollinators straight to their sticky nectar. And as persistent to survive as they are, they don’t hoard all the resources. The other way around is true, providing food for wildlife, and helping stabilize the soil to prevent erosion with their dense network of roots that also retain moisture and nutrients.

Throughout history, Violets have been associated with truth, wisdom, and love (specifically q***r love). And, I would add the importance of diversity, with their colors ranging from deeply rich, midnight tones to lighter lilac hues, and even be yellow w/ reddish accents or white. In Native American traditions, the Haudenosaunee people - part of the Iroquois Nation - see Violet as a child born of both earth and sky - harmony and balance, where great opportunities await.

Violets are a strong, yet gentle remedy. They cross the medicine-food bridge. Their heart-shaped leaves are high in vitamin C and A, and their flowers have been know to be a tasty addition to a salad or sauté, as well as a candied treat. Cooling for dry, inflamed tissues, Violets make a lovely syrup for a sore throat. Or add them to a lymphatic-forward formula to help waste elimination, improving liver, kidney, digestive, and lymphatic function.
Violets are also quite safe for pretty much everyone.

While I could go on and on (and perhaps I’ll write a blog to do just that), all of this is to say maybe Violet chose to represent The Community Apothecary, instead of the other way around.
