ACT Now Lane

ACT Now Lane We are a cross-sector coalition joining forces to end the community’s homelessness crisis for good.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been sharing more about what’s really driving homelessness in our community.

If there’s one thing we hope people take away, it’s this:

👉 The biggest driver is a lack of enough housing.

When housing is limited and expensive, more people become at risk and more people fall through.

That doesn’t mean other factors don’t matter. But it does help us focus on where solutions can have the biggest impact. This issue is complex. And it affects all of us.

But it’s also something we can work on, together.

Let’s break this down simply:
When there aren’t enough homes for the number of people who need them:

➡️ Rent goes up
➡️ Fewer options are available
➡️ More people become at risk
➡️ More people experience homelessness

This is why housing supply is such an important part of the conversation. It’s not
always visible but it has a big impact.

There are a lot of ideas about what causes homelessness.

But research shows the biggest driver is something more structural:

👉 Not enough housing.

In Lane County, between 2017-24:
⚫ Rent increased 40%
⚫ Home prices went up 88%
⚫ Vacancy rates = very low

When housing is limited and expensive, more people fall through the cracks.
This is why housing matters - for everyone.

You may have heard that people come here for services.

But local data shows something different:

👉 4 out of 5 people experiencing homelessness became homeless right here in Lane County.

This is a local challenge and one we can work on together.

Understanding the facts helps us move toward real solutions.

Before we jump to solutions, we have to start with understanding.

Homelessness is complex but that doesn’t mean we can’t make progress together.

It just means we need to slow down, listen, and learn.

This month, we’re sharing what we’re seeing, what the data tells us, and how our
community can respond.

We’re glad you’re here with us. 💛

There’s a lot of conversation right now about homelessness in our community.

So let’s start with what we know, based on local data:

- 65% of people experiencing homelessness in Lane County are unsheltered
- 4 out of 5 people became homeless here locally
- 4,474 people = 4,474 real stories
- 62% are living with a disability

This issue is closer to home and more complex than many of us realize.

This month, we’re sharing more about what’s really happening and what it means for our community.
