Forests Today and Forever promotes forest stewardship through experiential education programs for youth and adults on working tree farms.

Forests Today and Forever promotes forest stewardship through experiential education programs for youth and adults using working tree farms and other managed forests in Lane and Linn counties. Our goal is to connect people to Oregon’s forests, and instill an appreciation and understanding about forest management. We a variety of programs for diverse audiences. Our cornerstone program is Forest Field Days, which serves 2,500 middle school students each year. We also offer tours for high school students, university and college classes, and other adult groups. At the Oregon Logging Conference, we provide school tours for fourth and fifth graders. Our programs are flexible, and we will work with teachers and other program leaders to create an experience that meets both our mission and your objectives. Programs are free, and transportation costs are reimbursed for schools.

🌲🍂 Learning is more fun in the forest!

This fall, 4th and 5th grade students from Eugene, Springfield, and surrounding rural communities visited an operating tree farm to explore forest stewardship, discover how forest managers protect water, learn about wildfire, and see how trees connect to the products we use every day. Through hands-on activities and outdoor discoveries, students learned how responsibly managed forests support wildlife, communities, and the products we rely on!

A big thank-you to our tree farm partners and educators who made these field trips possible! 💚

Have you noticed the big, golden leaves lighting up Pacific Northwest forests this time of year?

Meet the bigleaf maple—one of Oregon’s most recognizable deciduous trees. As fall arrives, its enormous leaves turn shades of yellow and gold before carpeting the forest floor.

🍂 Those fallen leaves are more than just beautiful. As they break down, they return nutrients to the soil and become part of the forest’s nutrient cycle.

🌿 Bigleaf maples are also important to forest ecosystems, providing habitat for wildlife and growing alongside the Douglas-fir, western redcedar, western hemlock and other trees of our region.

🌲 This week, 287 4th and 5th grade students from Eugene School District 4J and Springfield Public Schools got out of the classroom and into the forest!

Students explored a working tree farm while learning about trees, forest products, forest management, forest fire, fish passage and healthy waterways.
There’s nothing quite like learning about the forest while standing right in the middle of one! 🌲🔎🐾

We love helping students understand our the importance of forests and how to be good forest stewards. Can't wait to see 325 more students at the tree farm next week!

👏 We’re incredibly excited to welcome Nayla Keller to the Forests Today & Forever team!

A Eugene native with a passion for local ecology and outdoor education, Nayla brings experience as an outdoor school educator, youth conservation crew leader, and Salmon Watch educator with the Middle Fork Willamette Watershed Council. She holds an Associate of Science degree and a certificate in Geographic Information Systems from Lane Community College.

As an Educator, Nayla is truly boots on the ground. She works directly with students at Forest Field Days, visits classrooms to help prepare students for their Forest Field Days experience, teaches our 4th and 5th grade tree farm programs, and will help orient and support our volunteers.

We’re thrilled to have Nayla’s energy, experience, and enthusiasm for connecting young people with the forest on our team! 🌲🌲🌲
