Forests Today & Forever

Forests Today and Forever promotes forest stewardship through experiential education programs for youth and adults on working tree farms.

Forests Today and Forever promotes forest stewardship through experiential education programs for youth and adults using working tree farms and other managed forests in Lane and Linn counties. Our goal is to connect people to Oregon’s forests, and instill an appreciation and understanding about forest management. We a variety of programs for diverse audiences. Our cornerstone program is Forest Fie

ld Days, which serves 2,500 middle school students each year. We also offer tours for high school students, university and college classes, and other adult groups. At the Oregon Logging Conference, we provide school tours for fourth and fifth graders. Our programs are flexible, and we will work with teachers and other program leaders to create an experience that meets both our mission and your objectives. Programs are free, and transportation costs are reimbursed for schools.

We truly have the BEST volunteers! This spring, 69 incredible individuals generously shared their time, energy, and expertise to help bring forest education to life for over 1,100 students.

Through hands-on learning experiences, field-based activities, and real-world forestry knowledge, these volunteers helped students connect with forests in a meaningful way—building curiosity, understanding, and a deeper appreciation for forest stewardship.

We are so grateful to our partners, supporters, and volunteers who make this work possible. Your commitment helps ensure the next generation grows up with a strong connection to the land and the science behind it.

We are gearing up for our 'Find Your Foresty Path' summer immersion program, which happens later this month. We are so excited to meet a group of 15 high school students from Eugene Public Schools 4J. We have a great week planned. Forestry Education Friday 🌲🪵

This week, we’re highlighting the important role of sawmill workers in the forest sector! Sawmill workers help turn logs into the lumber and wood products we use every day — from homes and furniture to paper and packaging.

Modern sawmills rely on skilled workers who operate high-tech equipment, monitor quality, maintain safety standards, and make sure every part of the log is used efficiently. These careers combine teamwork, problem-solving, and technology to support sustainable forestry and strong rural communities.

Behind every wood product is a team of hardworking people helping ensure our forests continue to provide renewable resources for generations to come.

What an incredible spring season! 🌲☀️

This spring, Forests Today & Forever’s Forest Field Days programs served more than 1,100 students through hands-on learning experiences in Oregon’s forests. Students explored topics like wildlife, forest management, fire ecology, and sustainability while also meeting forestry professionals and learning about the many careers connected to healthy forests and natural resources.

Thank you to our volunteers, educators, industry partners, and supporters who help make these meaningful experiences possible. Together, we are inspiring the next generation of informed citizens and future forest leaders!

📣It's Forestry Education Friday! 🌲

Summer is a busy season for tree planting site preparation — an important forestry practice that helps young forests thrive. Before seedlings are planted, forestry crews work to reduce competing brush and prepare the ground so new trees have the sunlight, space, and resources they need to grow into healthy future forests. 🌱🌲

Thoughtful forest management today helps ensure strong, sustainable forests for generations to come.

FTF’s Wood is Good: Forest Sector Career Learning program introduces high school students to the many career paths connected to Oregon forests and helps spark interest in meaningful, well-paying jobs that support our communities and natural resources.

🔥🌲 Our Understanding Forest Fire classroom program for high school classes helps students explore the science of wildfire, forest health, and fire prevention through engaging, hands-on learning.
