The enchanting Solukhumbu (lower Everest) region, an expansive network of rural villages set against terraced fields, has an alarming shortage of medicines and basic medical equipment in its health centers.
“Some of the health centers do not have even cetamol, amoxicillin, metro tablets and contraceptive devices among other essential medicines.” - Kathmandu Post, February 2, 2017
"We have the training, but not the equipment.” - Dr. Bimlesh, head doctor of the Salyan Primary Healthcare Center.
The Salyan Primary Healthcare Center operates on a meager government budget and no hope is in sight to get the much-needed portable ultrasound machine, laboratory analyzer machine, and oxygen concentrator that could serve 15,000 people a year, most of whom are subsistence farmers.
Most people cannot afford the trip to Kathmandu to get the healthcare they need and suffer through their ailments until it becomes too late. For the people of this region, the healthcare options look grim.
That is, until the local doctors learned about Trek Relief's capabilities and asked for its help.
Through Trek Relief’s trip-based fundraising model, Trek Relief donors, fundraisers and volunteers will change the lives of the Solukhumbu community by enabling medical centers like the Salyan PHC to provide the medical services and medicines that the people need.
Trek Relief is raising funds to sponsor medical equipment, supplement medicine stocks, and hold volunteer medical specialty camps in Solukhumbu. Trek Relief volunteers will be working together with health centers and schools to bring greater healthcare to the region.
Trek Relief's fundraising treks to Everest Base Camp are dedicated to the thousands of people who must walk for hours every time they need medical care, and your generosity could mean the difference between life or death.
Please donate to support our efforts to provide medical relief to the region. This project is only possible with the help of people like you, compassionate individuals who care about fulfilling the basic physical needs of humankind. Thank you for your kindness and support, and namaste.
