South Eugene Robotics Team SERT - FRC Team 2521 - South Eugene Robotics - We build robots to compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition, learning engineering and teamwork skills.

We are the South Eugene Robotics Team, FIRST Robotics team 2521. Every year, we build a robot to compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition Oregon Regional, run by the national non-profit organization FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). The challenge changes yearly and usually involves manipulating game pieces with a robot to score points. Last season's challenge involved shooting Frisbees and climbing on a steel frame pyramid.

Last weekend we had our first Go Baby Go camp of the summer. This camp was historic: all of the students — both campers and SERT student mentors — were girls! This is a direct result of past girl-focused Go Baby Go camps and our deliberate efforts to recruit more girls into robotics.

The positivity and energy during the camp was absolutely delightful, with girls helping girls learn how to use tools, solder, work with electronics, and create joystick controlled cars that will change lives.

We modified three cars during the camp and will donate them all to children with mobility impairments through the OHSU Child Development and Rehabilitation Center in Eugene.

Huge thank you to our campers, our student and adult mentors, the alumni who came to help, and the Eugene Science Center for providing us space over the weekend. We couldn’t do it without all of you!

Our graduating seniors are heading to Rice University, Brown University, Purdue University, Oregon State University and LCC. Others are dreaming of being a Doctor, working in Aerospace and Network Systems Administration. WOW!
