Join us for our 2027 Japan Trip next May. It will include a 1) 5-day Zen retreat followed by 2) sightseeing/cultural activities and then ending with 3) a pilgrimage along the Kumano Kodo. Should be another wonderful year! 🌿🙏

Our Online Breakthrough to Zen Retreat is happening the first weekend of September (East Coast time) and it should be fantastic. These weekends are extremely transformational for students.

Led by Daizan Roshi and Shinkai Roshi. Open to folks in different times zones too, of course. There is flexibility with the schedule. This is our first US East Coast retreat - very exciting! ⭐

Our Zen Yoga Teacher Training is happening over the course of 9 weekends during the fall of 2026 and winter of 2027. There are still a spaces available. Wonderful opportunity to deepen your own yoga practice and to share with others.

Dates are:

September 2026: 19-20, 26-27
October 2026: 17-18,
November 2026: 14-15, 21-22
December 2026: 12-13
January 2027: 16-17
February 2027: 6-7, 27-28

“True person of no rank”. This calligraphy hung at the Zenways dojo during the five year anniversary of Zen Master Shinzan’s passing. He really encouraged his students to find this place of “no rank” in their lives. Often we compare ourselves to others and see life in terms of different hierarchies. But in your practice, you can also find a true place where none of this enters into the fray.

Our Japanese Tea Ceremony with Kayoko Sato-sensei in Nara. Always a refreshing, grounding, beautiful experience. Sato-sensei has been practicing tea ceremony since she was 13 years old.

Saraha Nyingma Buddhist Institute is having a fundraising event this coming Sunday, June 14th. Saraha is a wonderful Tibetan Buddhist community in Eugene. Please consider going or donating.

The 5 year memorial ceremony for Zen master Shinzan was last night at the Zenways dojo in London. It was a great night with so many folks from all around, in person and online. About halfway through the ceremony was an opportunity for silent sanzen, where you can be face-to-face with a teacher one last time. Beautiful to see how one life has touched so many in different ways.

Our yoga workshop with Sawako Kitayama-sensei and her students went really well. She studied with Masahiro Oki (founder of Oki-do yoga) for many years. This is us at her dojo in Nagoya.

We visited the Silver Pavilion (Ginkakuji) a few days back. Even though it’s called the Silver Pavilion, they chose to keep it natural and in the wabi-sabi aesthetic - an expression of simplicity, imperfection, and impermanence. Ginkakuji is a zen temple in northeast Kyoto, it has incredible gardens.
