This is Todaiji Temple in Nara, the ancient capital of Japan. There’s an enormous Buddha statue in the main hall, and it was seen as the center of the universe. The emperor was also represented by this great Buddha statue. It’s a beautiful building, one of the biggest wooden buildings in the world. We are in the second week of Japan together - it feels great to be doing some sightseeing and cultural activities after our Zen retreat.

Our Zen retreat just ended at Medaka Dojo in Nakatsugawa. Such a wonderful group of participants and supporters. It’s a fabulous place, full of lush greenery, energy, and flowing water. The food was fantastic again! We’re heading to Nagoya now for a zen yoga class with Kitayama-sensei and then onto Nara for the second half of our trip. So grateful to have this time in Japan with everyone.

We spent a day on Mount Iwataki yesterday commentating the 5 year anniversary of the passing of our teacher, Zen master Shinzan. He loved to practice on this mountain as did many others. This is the altar we used at the top for his ceremony 🕯️

We had a lovely time at Bukkokuji Temple before heading to Nakatsugawa for our Zen sesshin. A big thank you to Hojo-san and Jiko-san for making it possible. Here we are after a tea ceremony together.

The front gate and bonsho (bell) of Bukkokuji Temple in Fukui, Japan. Bukkokuji is well known for its teacher, Tangen Roshi, who lived and taught here for over 50 years. The energy and care taken throughout the grounds is still alive and well.

We were at Yokoji Temple yesterday in Ishikawa prefecture. It’s an incredible green sanctuary full of energy. The Zen teacher, Keizan, founded it in 1312 with hopes of it becoming the head temple of the Soto Zen tradition and enshrined the relics of the 5 Soto Zen ancestors in a mound behind the temple (called “Five Elders Peak” - Goroho). It’s a wonderful place, you can really feel the care that has gone into it over the centuries.

Our Harvesting Your Inner Abundance Retreat is in late July. We'll be focusing on practices geared towards fostering strength, vitality, and insight. Out at Big Bear. Should be a wonderful retreat. Come ground, restore, and balance for a long weekend.

We'll be doing plenty of meditation, zen yoga, energy practices, dyad work, hiking and more 🍉

Our Spring Melting the Ice Retreat was a couple weekends back. Being out on the Pacific Ocean was wonderful - lots of time to do zen practices geared towards aligning with the springtime.

Spring is a time for new life and growth. The energy of spring is vibrant, playful, and full of possibility. When the energy is flowing well in your springtime systems you're in alignment with nature and in your true place. Great group of folks from all over!

Our Buddha’s Birthday Ceremony happened recently. During the ceremony, we bathe the baby Buddha. It’s acknowledging your own true baby nature, and also his.
