Join Lane County Q***r Birders for an early spring outing at Fern Ridge Wildlife Area (Royal Ave access) on Saturday, March 21 at 8:30 AM!

We’ll explore about 1.5 miles of mostly flat rocky/gravel trail through wetlands and open water habitats. This time of year often brings a mix of lingering winter birds and the first wave of migrants, so there’s always something new to watch for.

Out on the marsh we might see dabbling ducks like Northern Pintails, Green-winged Teals, and American Wigeons, along with wading birds such as Great Blue Heron and Great Egret. Keep an eye on the sky for Northern Harriers, and listen to the chatter of Marsh Wrens, Red-winged Blackbirds, and Song Sparrows.

The trail is firm and mostly level, though some sections may be uneven or a little muddy—it is spring after all! There are no benches along the route until the wildlife viewing blind about halfway through the walk. Parking and restrooms are available at the trailhead.

Bring binoculars if you have them, dress for the weather, and come enjoy a morning of birding and community. Directions available on the LCQB website. Please RSVP!

Join LCQB at Wayne Morse Family Farm at 9am on Saturday, February 28th for a late winter birding adventure!

This time of year we’re likely to see American Robins, White-crowned Sparrows, Dark-eyed Juncos and Ruby-crowned Kinglets in the understory. Wayne Morse Farm is an especially good spot to see woodpeckers--Acorn Woodpeckers are vocal and visible, with chances for Downy Woodpeckers and Northern Flickers as well.

We’ll cover about 1 mile on gravel and mixed dirt trails, including one moderately sloped hill. Restrooms are available at the parking lot, but not along the path, and there are no benches on the route.

Wear warm layers, sturdy shoes & binoculars if you have them. Late February weather can shift quickly, so come prepared for anything from sunbreaks to drizzle--we bird no matter what Mother Nature does! RSVP at the link in bio.

Join Lane County Q***r Birders at Alton Baker Park for a morning of winter birding grounded in reflection, history, and community. This is one of our only weekday birding events of the year, and it falls on Martin Luther King Jr. Day—a time that often brings up big feelings alongside big questions about where we’re headed.

This will be a gentle-paced, beginner-friendly walk with space for observation, conversation, and community.

Bring water (or something warm to drink), binoculars if you have them, and warm layers either way!
