We’ve definitely cut way back on our social media presence, but we wanted to let you all know what we’re up to—especially in these fraught times.

For the first long, long stretch after Talia died, life felt absolutely surreal—that weird sensation of knowing our own lives had changed drastically, and yet the world went on as if there were no breech. We’ve accommodated her absence now but not the weirdness of it. Things no longer feel as su...

As an organization (and personally) we are less active on social media these days, but that doesn’t mean we have slowed down in our work! We know that for many, FB is how you follow and keep up with us. Below you’ll find a link to our most recent newsletter!

In these chaotic and often upsetting times, we are doing our level best to stay steady and stay the course. Thank you for following our work and supporting our mission. We hope you find ways to push back and/or work for change in healthcare (your own or the system generally). As we wrap up 2024 and head into many unknown seas, we wish only the best for each of you.

It’s hard to believe we’re about to wrap up another year. With all that is going on in both medicine and politics, it has really been a tumultuous year, yet it has also been a productive one for us. 2024 is the year we made our foray into the world of podcast. In a previous […]

We recently put up a Winter 2024 newsletter on our website, with links to two radio podcasts we appeared on (Tradeoffs and NPR’s Up First), along with a little info about our research/fundraising. Once you’re on our website, if you subscribe, we’ll email you the newsletters directly. The podcasts were a whole new “thing” for us—have a listen!

We always admired that Talia was willing to take risks, personally, athletically, academically, artistically. I trace it all the way back to when she was barely walking, but climbed right up and out of her crib at 15 months. That “thunk” on the floor as she dropped to the other side deterred nei...

In the Wizard of Oz, as Dorothy’s world changes from black and white to technicolor, she turns to Toto and says, “I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.” From the moment we lost Talia, our world did the opposite, changing from technicolor to black and white. We understood we weren’t...

Summer has a way of disrupting our usual work patterns and we realized we emailed our most recent newsletter out when we posted it to our website, but we forgot to post it to FaceBook! So, while it’s a few weeks later, you can still hear about some of our recent doings. (And if you want to be sure to receive all our future newsletters, click the blue “subsribe” button on the right side of the page.)

As a child, Talia had a knack for figuring out how to… figure things out. When she didn’t have the skills she needed to do something, she would at first get frustrated; but soon she would become single-minded about learning how to do the thing, keeping at it with a laser-sharp focus until she ha...

Our larger-than-life, lion-hearted brother-in-law, Gabriel Romano, died this month. His daughter (Talia’s first cousin who is herself a new doctor) and Jeff were by his side as Gabe took his last breath. He fought hard to overcome the particularly aggressive cancer he developed over two years ago....

We’re excited to announce our plans for a research study that Talia’s Voice is sponsoring. You can read about it below.

February is always grueling for us—a long slog through all the moments, dates, and events that took Talia from us forever. To honor and remember Talia on this eighth anniversary, we are proud to announce that Talia’s Voice is sponsoring a significant research study to be conducted by the Univers...

Shout out to Ariadne Labs for the work they are doing on Communication and Resolution Programs. Calling on hospitals (and for people who work in them to nudge their hospital administrators) to join the PACT Collaborative for training and guidance in how to respond to harm events, adverse outcomes, and medical errors. There is a right way, and CAI, Ariadne Labs, and IHI are leading the way. We’re proud to be a part of it…and you can listen to Jeff below!
