Greetings Dancers
Let us celebrate the skin we are in and beyond… Where never meets forever… And the pulse of music beats inside us… Remember to remember to be here… To be this. To be you… Let us celebrate the skin we are in and beyond… Where never meets forever… And the pulse of music beats inside us… Remember to remember to be here… To be this… To be you…
Inner Forest is an Oregon-based musician, DJ, and producer weaving ancient sound wisdom into forward-thinking electronic music. Drawing from global traditions and bass-driven experimentation, his work blurs the line between ceremony and dancefloor, offering immersive journeys that awaken the body, mind, and spirit.
Each composition is crafted with intention, layering organic instrumentation, hypnotic rhythms, and visionary textures to guide listeners into altered states of connection and bliss.

Somatic Lab with Elena
In this lab, we’ll explore twerking as a grounded and freeing movement practice.
Rather than focusing on performance or ā€œdoing it right,ā€ we’ll slow down and tune in, using rhythm and repetition to connect with the hips, unwind tension, and tap into our own energy and power through movement.

This is a playful invitation to experiment and try something that may feel new, edgy, or unfamiliar. The intention is to cultivate confidence, aliveness, and embodied expression through bold, unapologetic movement. All bodies and experience levels are welcome! Come as you are and move as you feel.

The Somatic Lab
is a space in time intended to support, inspire and refine our dance, to share with each other our observations, experiences, creativity, and ways of learning.

ā€œHow to be Heavyā€ Contact Improvisation Workshop, with Laura Stokes (Berlin-based teaching/performing artist/educator)

Registration link: tinyurl.com/HowToBeHeavy

TIMES & LOCATIONS:

The ā€œmain eventā€ on Saturday and Sunday
the Village School, 3411 Willamette Street.

SATURDAY: 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. (with a lunch break)
SUNDAY: 12:00 - 4:00 p.m.

FRIDAY BONUS CLASS, March 27th at 5:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. followed by the weekly contact improvisation jam, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
the Eugene Garden Club, 1645 High Street.

Laura describes:
ā€œDoes our preoccupation in contact improvisation with ā€˜being light’ run the risk of mirroring harmful cultural norms like preferring lighter moods & lighter body types?
I’m not sure! But I do know that the contact improvisation dances I find most satisfying are the ones with the most shared weight - the heavy ones…

Of course I don’t want to crush my partner or be oppressed by their weight, but perhaps through sophisticating our experience of weight we can have more fulfilling, more honest, and more exciting dances!

We’ll work with physiological states and specific physical techniques to explore weight on continuums like:
Decided ~ Questioning
Dependant ~ Agile
Rigid ~ Released
Sudden ~ Sequential
Linear ~ Centrifugal
Focused ~ Diffuse
Fixed ~ Adaptive
Collapsed ~ Activated
Transparent ~ Opaque

Laura Stokes carpooled with Steve Paxton (initiator of the dance form of contact improvisation) to her first jam 25 years ago, and has been in love with contact improvisation ever since. She has worked in many performance and movement disciplines. These days she’s most interested in cultivating a non-disciplinary approach to living artfully in a body.
All levels of experience welcome.
