What can we do? To Start: 1. Insist that educational teams consider a child's emotions and engaged relationships as the foundation across all treatment goals 2. Understand behavioral challenges of children exposed to trauma as survival instincts 3. Prioritize relational joy over rewards & consequences.

We are hoping to make contact with a baby boy who my sister gave up for adoption in 1957. The baby was born at Boys & Girls Aid in Portland, Oregon. The baby's birth mother's name was Rita Jones. She is now deceased but we have lots of family health and genealogy information. I will try to attach a photo of her as a young lady. Your uncle , Pete Jones

After 24 years, the Board of Adoption Connections of Oregon has decided to dissolve the non-profit organization because of lack of involvement from the community.

It is with great sadness that we make this announcement, because so many of us have gained so much support from the people within the community.

We will continue to maintain the page and private Facebook group as long as they remain active, and we hope to continue to connect with everyone in both the digital and real world.

Stay tuned for one last awesome community gathering for anyone connected with our group!

All the best,

Posting for someone who contacted us:
Hi all. I’m the parent of an internationally adopted child (she’s 14 now), and I also am a faculty member at The Ohio State University, where I do research on academic motivation in adolescents. Both as a parent of an internationally adoptee and as a researcher, I’ve found that there is virtually no solid, peer-reviewed research on academic success in internationally adopted children. This year, a few of my colleagues at Ohio State and I launched a study to examine academic success in internationally adopted adolescents. The goal of our study is to understand how to promote academic success in these students’ lives, and to be able to make research-based recommendations for parents and educators, in order to better support our kids’ success in school.
I’d like to invite you to participate in our study if you are interested. It involves your completing a parent survey, and your adopted child completing a student survey (each take about a half hour or so to complete). We are looking for families with internationally adopted kids who are age 11 and older. Parents of younger adoptees also are invited to participate, but the kids must be 11 or older. All participants get entered into a lottery to win one of several Amazon gift certificates. If you are interested in participating, please e-mail me at: [email protected] and we’ll send you a link to the online surveys.
Thank you for considering this request!
