Friends of Trees staff recently did some follow up care for several trees along Northwest Expressway that had been nonessentially pruned by an unknown party.
While this may have been a well intentioned act, we'd like to emphasize that not all trees need to be pruned. These plantings along the expressway are a great example of large canopy trees in an urban setting that have low-maintenance growth habits and will require little to no pruning for quite some time.
Furthermore, lower canopy branches on young trees help them develop trunk taper, which helps them grow up stronger! 💪🌲
We are actively managing this and other sites in green spaces around town. We also host volunteer pruning events once a year in the late summer.
