At just 18 years old, Emma Weibel has already spent years fighting for climate justice, and she’s not stopping now 🌎⚖️

A former Genesis v. EPA plaintiff, Emma is now the lead youth intervenor in U.S. Department of Transportation v. California Air Resources Board, where young people are seeking to defend California’s authority to regulate climate pollution and protect children from harmful emissions.

In our latest blog, Emma shares why she joined the case as an intervenor, what she’s learned from years of climate advocacy, and why she remains committed to fighting for young people’s rights.

The federal government is suing to strip California’s authority to limit vehicle pollution — a power the California Air Resources Board (CARB) has held for over 70 years. Youth are not standing by while decades of protection get dismantled.

This case could shape vehicle pollution standards nationwide. We’re making sure young people’s constitutional rights are part of that conversation.

Meet Our Youth Advisory Council member: Nathan Baring

Nathan grew up in Alaska, watching the climate crisis reshape the land he calls home, and at just 15 years old, he became one of the youth plaintiffs in Juliana v. United States, the landmark case asserting that young people have a constitutional right to a safe climate.

For nearly a decade, Nathan fought alongside 20 other young people to hold the federal government accountable. Now, he’s bringing that experience full circle as a member of Our Children’s Trust’s Youth Advisory Council, helping guide the next generation of youth-led climate litigation.

From plaintiff to advisor, Nathan’s story is a reminder: this fight doesn’t end with one case. It’s a movement 💪
