Independent Environments, Inc. (IEI) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit providing home and community based services to adults who experience developmental and intellectual disabilities in the Eugene, Oregon area.
It is our mission to assist the people we support in living healthy and happy lives by fully participating in home, community and family life. IEI brings this mission to life by expanding the horizons and enhancing the quality of life for the people we support as well as their families, friends, our employees and our community.
IEI is proud to have beautiful, well-kept homes and long-term employees who truly enjoy and value what they do. IEI is a unique, values driven organization. We are small by choice, following a slow and carefully orchestrated model of growth. We believe that while growth is healthy, maintaining quality of life for the people we support is essential.
At Home
Since it was founded in 1979, IEI’s primary focus has been to provide 24-hour residential services, with round-the-clock support in each person’s home.
IEI in particular has worked to create a home for each person we support that meets their needs and adapts as those needs change. This person-centered approach has become a tradition at IEI that has helped many people overcome adversity.
From support with household tasks to teaching the skills a person wants to learn, our homes and the support professionals we employ are here to help create a healthy, safe and happy home environment for each person and their unique situation.
Currently, IEI owns and operates ten 24-hour residences in the Eugene area, supporting a broad range of adults at each residence.
In the Community
Part of creating person-centered environments at IEI also includes helping the people we support become valued members of the community where they live. Whether that is finding fun things to do, getting involved in their passions, contributing to something greater than themselves, or taking the trip of a lifetime, the support professionals we employ are here to help each person get out and do the things they enjoy and be a visible part of where they live.
At Work
In addition to helping people get out and enjoy our great community, IEI also provides services that support people to identify and learn job skills, as well as find and maintain paid employment. From working with a landscaping crew to being an associate at a local retailer - to starting their own small business - IEI is here to help people with disabilities be equitable participants in the workforce.
