The Valley Radio Club of Oregon (formerly Valley Radio Club of Eugene), located in Eugene, Oregon.

The Valley Radio Club of Oregon (formerly Valley Radio Club of Eugene), located in Eugene, Oregon, began in 1931 and was chartered in 1932, making it one of the oldest, continuously operated club stations in the United States. It has been affiliated with the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) since 1932, and associated with the American Red Cross since 1951. If you are a newly licensed ham operator in our community, please come on by and meet other hams. Our membership is diverse, with ham radio experience ranging from several months to many decades!! Let us share our hamming experiences with you, and you'll see what ham radio fun is all about!!

Last Saturday's bunny hunt at Maurie Jacobs Park provided fall color and room to roam in the search for transmitter "bunnies." Gary AG7TH was there with his tape measure yagi providing helpful tips on radio locations. This event was not organized as a competition so no formal winners, but Gary did distinguish himself by finding both of the hidden transmitters.

Whether a novice or experienced ham there is something for all participants. Radio curious novices don't need a hand held radio, special antenna or even a ham licence to enjoy the fun of locating 'bunnies.' aka hidden transmitters. More experienced hams hone their location skills while having the reward of sharing their knowledge with others! Thanks to Bruce AI7LO for organizing this fun event!

We even had some special turkey guests🦃

We had a ton of fun at the VRC vs EARS POTA challenge! Our unofficial score is 263 points (still pending more P2P uploads to the POTA website). See the photo for more details on our point count thus far. The EARS club made a lot more QSO's than we did, however, so they have bragging rights--until next time😉
It was great to see so many radio friends in person out at the park! 7️⃣3️⃣

Basic Electronics and Microprocessors Class:
Dates: September 21 – November 9
Time: Mondays, 7–9pm
Location: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3132 River Rd, Eugene, OR

This hands-on course covers breadboarding, common components, and an intro to Arduino — writing programs, uploading code, and seeing how it all comes together in real circuits.

Cost: Free! You'll just need:
-Your own laptop
-A $35 electronics parts kit (available at Oregon Electronics, 975 Conger St, Suite 1, Eugene)

🛰️ Guest Presentation: Randy Hall, K7AGE — "Signals from Space"
Randy Hall (K7AGE), joins us to talk about Slow Scan TV (SSTV) — how it's used to send color images from the ISS and other amateur radio satellites, and how you can receive and decode these transmissions with just a handheld radio and a smartphone app.

Some club members traveled to Scappoose this Saturday for the Willamette Valley DX Club picnic. We made just over 540 contacts in a little over 5 hours with the special event call W1AW/7. Thanks for hosting this great event Mike W7VO and Shelley W7VOX!

Come a little early, if possible, to start the paperwork process. There is no time limit on the test. The test examiners stay as long as necessary until all test-takers are finished and paperwork is completed. Exam sessions are on the second Friday of each month except when schedule conflicts require a change.

March 21-22 ham radio class covering the Technician license (and beyond). Yes, it's really free, and yes, it's serious education for those who want to develop a good grasp of not just the exam question pool but the theory that makes it all work.

Congrats to the people who either passed or upgraded their licenses at our exam session in December!

Five people tested:
- 3 Oregon State University students from OSU's robotics program passed their Technician Exams
- 1 University of Oregon student and member of the N7DUX ham radio club upgraded to their General, and
- 1 person passed the tech exam and received credit for a long-lapsed General license.

Thank you to the 5 Volunteer Examiners who helped grade the tests.
