It seems the bad guys have way too much time on their hands! Here's a scam alert we got from ANWG - I had seen it elsewhere too. Be careful out there!

Scam Alert

We wanted to alert everyone to a scam making the rounds. Someone claiming to have a loom that their late husband used is willing to give the loom away for free to someone who will use it and care for it like her husband did. They claim the loom is an 8 shaft Schacht, 52 inch wide, solid cherrywood, with 10 treadles. It’s a nice loom but it's not local and will need to be shipped.

If you’re thinking there is no such loom, you’re correct. This is a scam. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true there’s probably something wrong. In this case they wanted to use a specific shipper, but that shipper isn’t real, and neither is the loom. Details are on the Better Business Bureau website:

Ready, set, dye!

Ready, set, dye!

It's the day after "Freebie Friday"! And it's also the day before Easter. So let's have a little something that is rather timely!

Have you ever wanted to create your own space-dyed yarn? Did you know that Easter egg dye tablets can dye wool yarn? Since Easter is in a couple of days, stores with leftover egg-dyeing kits will soon have them on sale . . . if not already.

The links below will take you instructions on how to dye wool (I repeat WOOL) yarn using Easter egg dye. In the meantime, swing by the store and pick up a couple of Easter egg dyeing kits and get ready to create some colorful yarns! Or wait until after Easter when they're on sale!

Enjoy! Easter egg dyeing kits will be on sale very soon!

Tomorrow we have a Saturday guild meeting! We start our business meeting at 10, and the program begins at 11. If you're local/regional, and would like to check us out, please be our guest! It should be a fun program, presented by Ruth MacGregor - here's the description:
Whether functional or just pretty, narrow bands are important parts of our weaving landscape. A plain, hard-working band has its own special beauty; but if it also has color and pattern, it sings to the human soul. Stripes add color, of course, but sometimes a weaver yearns for a varied pattern that's more satisfying to the eye and more interesting to weave.
Most of us have woven something with pick-up patterning (please don't groan); but many (many!) weavers find the process unacceptably slow. So, what if there were a way to create pick-up patterns in warp-faced bands without painstakingly poking through all the warps with a little stick? Spoiler: There is.
Clever weavers through the centuries have created devices to speed the process of weaving pick-up. Some are rigid heddles, modified to make pattern weaving more efficient. Other devices are more complicated and involve setups akin to small drawlooms.
This program (starting small!) introduces two different kinds of pattern heddle, dating back to the 17th century (based on dates inscribed on original tools). We'll see how they work, how they differ, and what they can do. Come and be surprised — pick-up patterning is more satisfying than you may have suspected!

The fine people at Gist yarn have developed a free name draft pattern for rigid heddle, 4 shaft and 8 shaft looms! The drafts are based on the phrase "Resistance is American". The drafts are here: https://www.gistyarn.com/products/resistance-is-american-name-draft?variant=47570939805935

If you want to read more about name drafts, here's an article from Handwoven: https://handwovenmagazine.com/hidden-messages-name-drafts/

From the Homespun movement of the Revolutionary War to the abolitionist boycotts of cotton produced by enslaved labor, American textiles have always carried a rich history of resistance. "Resistance is American" is a Name Draft available for 8-shaft (Broken Twill), 4-shaft (Lace) and Rigid Heddle (C...
