A torrential downpour in Springfield Sunday didn’t stop nurse midwives, expectant parents and community supporters from gathering to celebrate the grand opening of a new, free-standing Birth Center.

We love this photo by The Register-Guard featuring several of Our Community Birth Center's board members, staff, and volunteers who have put in countless hours bringing this birth center to life. The photo is taken standing outside the new birth center building in Springfield.

Also check out the excellent article The Register Guard published earlier this week on the history and future of nurse midwifery services in Lane County! Article written by Tatiana Parafiniuk-Talesnick.

Excerpt: "Birth Centers are health care facilities for childbirth where care is provided by midwives. They are known for providing a more home-like experience than a hospital. 'Childbirth is not necessarily just a medical event--it's also a family event. It's also a normal event in a woman's life,' said Chris Heritage, Certified Nurse Midwife and Our Community Birth Center board vice president."

Photo Description: Headline and photo of Register Guard article featuring Our Community Birth Center. Adults in the photo from left to right include: Elena Aguero - Our Community Birth Center Development Coordinator, Sarah Imig - RN and Volunteer, Ricky Grand - Board Member, AlexAnn Westlake - CNM & Executive Director, Teresa Roark - Board Member, Catherine Bonomini-Smith - Board Member, Ren McLemore - Friends of the Birth Center Member & Volunteer, Puja Clifford - Board Member, and Mary Carpenter - CNM & Board Member.
