WOW! What a phenomenal Plant Sale and Silent Auction for the Lane County Master Gardener Association this past Saturday. We had more unique vegetables and plants in one place than I'd ever seen. Did you pick up one of the Grafted tomatoes or a 4-way bare root apple tree? We appreciate the support of the community, so we can continue to cultivate resilient and healthy communities in all of Lane County through sustainable gardening projects rooted in science in cooperation with the OSU Extension Service. We look forward to next year's event. Every year we get feedback to create an even better event, please let us know your thoughts. See you next year. SAVE THE DATE Same place, April the 27th last Saturday in April.

The Lane County Master Gardener Association Spring Plant Sale and Silent Auction will be held from 10 am – 3 pm on Saturday, April 29th, 2023, at the Lane Event Center inside the East Expo Halls, 796 W 13th Ave, Eugene, OR 97402

We will have vegetable & herb starts, beautiful hanging baskets for Mother’s Day, annuals, perennials, native plants, water plants, houseplants, shrubs, bare root trees, and more. Lane County Master Gardeners propagate and grow these plants, and we purchase and receive donated plants from local nurseries, which make our plants available at great prices. The Lane County Master Gardener Association follows best practices of the OSU Master Gardener Program to reduce the spread of invasive plants and pests.

The Master Gardener Plant Sale is much more than just plants. We have a Silent Auction with lots of fabulous donations. Auction bids will start closing at noon. Our used book sale has a variety of gently used books on gardening and cooking. Pick up an apron, tool bucket, or other garden products at the Master Gardener Store. Please bring all your garden questions to the Mobile Plant Clinic, have your soil PH tested for only $2.00 cash, support the 4H program at their bake sale, and see what’s happening at the OSU Extension Service in Lane County.

Bring your wagon and boxes to make your shopping easier. Use the plant holding area and drive your car around for easy pick-up. Quantities will be limited, so come early.

Admission is FREE. All cashiers will accept cash, checks, and cards.

Tip Tuesday: How to identify plants and pests

Oregon State University just launched a brand new online tool that’s simple to use! There are great photos with easy-to-understand language that really helps the user with identification and treatment options.

It is “A science-based guide for the Pacific Northwest. Diagnose and solve problems with pests, weeds, trees, and bushes, effectively and with low-risk; includes invasive species.”

Not only is it super user friendly, but it’s also free to use! Check it out: https://solvepestproblems.oregonstate.edu/

A little less fall garden cleanup can be better for native bees. Many native bees nest in the ground or in hollow stems. Leave a few untidy spots near the edge of your garden and don’t cut back some healthy plants to lower than a foot. You’ll be providing wintering ground for important pollinators. For more tips on keeping a bee-friendly garden, read this from the Oregon State University Extension Service:
