On June 17th, the 4J School District will decide whether or not they will renew their contract with the Eugene Police Department. Alongside demanding that the 4J School District cut ties with EPD, we want to share with you some important information about their close relationship.

- The contract presented will pay for 5 years if renewed, with an annual expense of $475,000 to the Eugene Police Department.

- If the contract is not renewed, this would allow certain funds to be reallocated to programs that fundamentally support students.
Example: School counselors and/or HOOTS (through Whitebird clinics).

- While the vote to renew the contract takes place on June 17th, as of now, only 2 out of the 7 4J board members encourage this transition, (it's our job to change that).

Call to Action: Email the 4J school board directly, at [email protected]. Make sure to clearly write “Public Comment” for the message’s subject, so that it makes the official records.

Lastly, you may or may not be aware that the 4J school district was deputized last June, making it an official Law Enforcement Agency. This decision happened behind closed doors, without the opportunity for community members to speak up. Kari Skinner, the wife of Eugene’s Chief of Police, is the current District Safety Officer for 4J schools. These affiliations are central to understanding 4J’s stance on “appropriate behavioral management” in schools and are unacceptable.

Stay tuned, as there will likely be a public protest as we approach the June 17th deadline!

You can use this template to email the Board of Trustees.

Dear Trustees - I am writing in full support of Trustee Andrew Colas requests regarding Deady Hall, as well as with calls for fundamental changes in University of Oregon policy.

It is time the University of Oregon comes to terms with its historical and current relationship with white supremacy. The following steps represent the beginning of that necessary and ongoing duty.

-The University needs to rename the buildings of historical slave owners and public figures who supported slavery as well as remove all racially insensitive artifacts from the property. There is no just reason to keep memorializing a problematic figure like Deady. History is one thing, memorials another. By renaming Deady Hall, respect would be paid to the lives of those whom he condemned to be owned.

-The University needs to diversify it’s staff and student body and Ethnic Studies 101 needs to be a required course to graduate.

-The University needs to follow the leadership of the University of Minnesota and no longer contract with the Eugene Police Department for large events and additional law enforcement support because it places Black students, faculty, and staff at risk.

The time for action is now!

Sincerely,

Please support these businesses every day. Help fuel our Local Black Economy, due to the economic discrepancies and disparities we view within the marketplace. Spread the word of these institutions and drop more below in the comments.

Please take a look at this and reflect. I will try to answer as many of your questions as possible, if you have any. :)

Hello everyone and welcome to our official page.

We want to thank you all for your support, willingness to learn, and the ability to gather and fight for what is right. We're hoping your support will continue although the march is over!

We're here because we owe it to the Black people who've died or faced injustice everywhere, by the hands of our government. We owe it to those who're alive and deserve a better life for themselves and future generations. We will stay organized, informed, powerful, and impactful. We will post future protests, charities/funds to donate to, and the best resources we can use to correct this nation's wrongdoings towards BIPOC and Black people. This will all occur on this page.
