AIA Eugene

AIA Eugene AIA Eugene is a Section of the Oregon Chapter of AIA . We bring design professionals to better the built environment and the place we call home.

The Southwestern Oregon Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA-SWO) was founded as a chapter in 1952, a professional organization. Based in Eugene, our chapter’s geographic reach spans 9 counties, stretching from the coast to Bend, and from Corvallis to Roseburg. 75 percent of our members are in Eugene, 15 percent in Corvallis, and the remainder are in Bend or elsewhere. We are a vol

unteer-run organization with one part-time paid staff person. Our annual operating budget is roughly $80,000, of which approximately one-third comes from member dues. AIA-SWO is a component of AIA-Oregon, the NW & Pacific Region, and AIA-National.

It’s been more than four years since the Holiday Farm fire destroyed hundreds of homes along the McKenzie River. Last Friday, Homes for Good held a grand opening to celebrate a completely rebuilt housing community where a mobile home park once stood.

Seeking Public Comment on Annual Report on Housing and Community Development Block Grant Activities

Each year the City of Eugene receives federal funds to carry out a wide range of community development and affordable housing activities. These include funds directed toward economic development, funding social services and supporting the creation and maintenance of affordable housing. The City must report annually back to the funding agency on the activities undertaken during the previous year (fiscal year – FY24). The City is seeking public comment on this report now. The report is called the Eugene-Springfield Consolidated Annual Performance Evaluation Report (CAPER), which reviews the CDBG and HOME funded activities. Please visit www.eugene-or.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=6736 for more information. Public comment is due by September 18, 2024.

A unanimous vote!

The Eugene City Council adopted the Middle Housing Ordinance last evening. The vote was unanimous! The Ordinance includes everything required by HB 2001 and customizations for Eugene such as an allowance for detached duplexes, triplexes, and fourplexes, affordable housing and small unit incentives, and smaller lot sizes for all middle housing types.

Stay tuned for next steps including where to find the signed ordinance and how to apply for a building permit. The new code goes into effect on June 30, 2022.
