We wanted to let everyone know about something that Shiwanni Johnson has been working on and ask if anyone in LLSA was interested in being involved in some way.
For the past year she has been a research assistant for one of the reference librarians here at UO. They have been doing the legislative history research for Oregon's "sanctuary" law. They are coming to the end of the project and one of the things that they did is interview 2 of the men responsible for bringing the law into existence: Rocky Barilla and Danny Santos. Rocky was the first latino assemblymen elected in Orgeon's history and Danny was a dean at Willamette law school. These interviews are going to be part of a three part miniseries on TOMA beginning this week Friday (9/18).
The mini-series will air over the course of Hispanic Heritage Month. If anyone is interested in coming on the pod to discuss either the law, sanctuary laws in general, being latinx at UO, DACA, the latinx community in Oregon, or basically anything that you want to talk about.
