Did you know that 80% of the kids we serve need comprehensive interventions to reach grade-level literacy by third grade?

That’s why our professional mentors work one-on-one with children to build strong reading foundations—and the results are astounding! In just three years, our kids have jumped 22 percentile points in literacy assessments!

Reading opens doors. Let’s make sure every child can walk through them.

We are thrilled to partner with Camp Fire Wilani to help get underserved youth a transformative summer camp experience!
The mission of Camp Fire Wilani perfectly aligns with Friends of the Children. Camp Fire Wilani believes in the power of a caring adult mentor to positively impact a child’s life. They recruit, hire, and train caring adult mentors to guide youth through camp experiences wherein they can connect to the natural world, build confidence, and make new friends.
Your gift will help send 10 Friends of the Children youth to Camp Wilani this summer!

Donate directly to Camp Wilami.

ON SALE NEXT WEEK! We are excited about our book Fleetfoot's Rise and grateful to our amazing friends Ninkasi Brewing, Thinking Tree Spirits, Farmers Union Coffee Roasters and Prince Pückler's Gourmet Ice Cream who have generously offered to sell copies at their locations.

Fleetfoot’s Rise was written as a celebration of Eugene, its rich ties to the world of track and field and its passionate social service sector. Finnley represents the hope we share about all children - that they will have the support needed to overcome the challenges they face – support that is particularly important when children are facing systemic and historical barriers that can inhibit their ability to succeed.
