EHS students Maycee Smith and Christian O’Hara explored Washington, D.C., as members of the Focus Initiative. They were immersed in the city’s history and government, visiting multiple landmarks including the U.S. Capitol, the underground tunnels connecting the Capitol and House of Representatives, Howard College, and many others. We are proud that Maycee and Christian were part of this unique and memorable experience.

Meet 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗟𝗲𝘄𝗶𝘀! A senior at Bullock County High School, Shameria is an accomplished student with top academic honors in multiple subjects and a heart for service in her community. She plans to pursue a career as a nurse and will inspire the audience with a praise dance to “For Your Glory” by Tasha Cobbs. She plans to become a pediatric travel nurse and will grace the stage with a praise dance to “Your Spirit” by Tasha Cobbs Leonard. Last week, four of our upcoming seniors attended the Troy Legacy Builders Camp at Troy University! 🙌🏽 Over the course of three days, they experienced dorm life, attended financial literacy sessions, met the Mayor of Troy, explored Butter and Eggs, went white-water rafting, and enjoyed plenty of exciting activities and seminars.

As an added bonus, each student was accepted to Troy University and awarded a $4,000 scholarship! 🎓💰 We’re so proud of their hard work and can’t wait to see what the future holds!

What a summer it’s been! ☀️ As our adventures come to an end, our final stop was Valdosta, GA. We had a blast soaking up the sun at Wild Adventures and wrapped things up with a tour of the beautiful campus at Valdosta State University. Until next time! 🎢🎓

Day 3:

Our students toured the historic Fisk University and explored the amazing National Museum of African American Music—definitely a place to visit if you're ever in Nashville! We wrapped up the day with a delicious family-style dinner at Paula Deen’s before heading to the iconic Grand Ole Opry.

Day 2 of our Upward Bound adventure was unforgettable! 🍳 We started with a great breakfast at Embassy Suites, followed by a tour of Vanderbilt University. We explored the Country Music Hall of Fame 🎶, shopped at Opry Mills 🛍️, and ended the night sailing on the General Jackson Showboat dinner cruise. 🚢 What a day!

Day 1: Chattanooga, TN

What an amazing first day of Upward Bound adventures! 🌄 From breathtaking views at Rock City and Lover’s Leap to spotting seven states and crossing the swinging bridge — our students soaked in the beauty of Lookout Mountain! We explored the wonder of Ruby Falls, wrapped up the evening with a ghost tour through Chattanooga’s rich history, and enjoyed dinner at Mellow Mushroom. Day 2 up next! 🚌💫

Extremely proud of our UB scholars! They absolutely crushed the egg drop challenge with creative designs, smart thinking, and only a few scrambled eggs. 🥚👏 We enjoyed seeing their teamwork and problem-solving skills in action today!
