Lake Erie Panthers Announce Return to Historic “Euclid Panthers” Name

Euclid, Ohio — 4/1/2026

The Lake Erie Panthers Hockey Club, a proud member of the Cleveland Suburban Hockey League, today announced that the organization will officially return to its historic name, the Euclid Panthers, beginning with the upcoming season.

The decision marks a return to the program’s roots, reconnecting the organization with a legacy that dates back to its founding in 1976.

The Euclid Youth Hockey Association, established in 1976, has been a cornerstone of youth hockey development in Northeast Ohio for nearly five decades. Since its inception, the association has remained committed to developing young athletes, promoting sportsmanship, and building a strong sense of community through the game of hockey.

“This is more than just a name change. It’s a return to who we are,” said Hockey Director Nick Komma. “The Euclid Panthers name represents generations of players, families, and coaches who built this program. We’re honoring that legacy while continuing to grow and move forward.”

Originally competing as the Euclid Panthers, the organization evolved over time into the Lake Erie Panthers, expanding its reach while maintaining its core mission. Today, the club continues to operate as a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization focused on youth development and community engagement.

All teams will continue to compete under USA Hockey and Mid-Am District guidelines, with participation in one of the region’s most competitive leagues. The organization remains dedicated to providing a high-quality, affordable hockey experience while fostering a family-first culture.

The return to the Euclid Panthers name reflects a renewed emphasis on community identity and pride, aligning the program more closely with the city it represents.

“This is about our city, our history, and our future,” Komma added. “We’re building something special, and bringing back the Euclid Panthers name is a big part of that.”

The organization will begin rolling out new branding, uniforms, and program updates in the coming months.

Congratulations to our Bantam team on winning the Red Division at the Winterhurst Presidents Day Tournament!

They outworked their opponent and battled, even with two sticks breaking in their fifth game of the weekend, to secure a 7 to 2 victory. Proud of the grit, teamwork, and determination this group showed all weekend.

Special shoutout to Caroline (and her mom) for going back and forth between Erie and Lakewood all weekend so she could play as many games as possible and help the team secure their championship. 🐾🩵🫶🏻

🎉 Bantam Spotlight - Captain Ben Trem 🎉

Rounding out our spotlight series is another Panther for life. Ben has played for the Panthers through his entire youth journey. The heartbeat of our team, Ben Trem serves as this season’s team captain and leads by example every time he steps on the ice. No one outworks Ben. As a centerman, he drives his line with effort, accountability, and intensity. After serving previously as an alternate captain, Ben earned the captain’s role through consistency, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to his teammates.

💭 Favorite Hockey Memories: Beating Parma in his first year of Peewees and the many tournaments shared with teammates throughout youth hockey
🏒 What Being a Panther Means: More than memories and fun, it’s about family. The Panthers community has always been there for me, and the players and coaches I’ve met over the past ten years have shaped me into who I am today. I couldn’t have asked for a better youth hockey experience.
🎯 Future Hockey Plans: Continue playing hockey in high school
🏒 How It All Started: My cousins inspired me to play
🔥 Favorite Team Moment This Season: Beating the Boston Shamrocks in overtime at the Buffalo tournament
💡 Best Advice Received: Extra work matters. The effort you put in during and outside of practice adds up over time and makes you a better player, even if you don’t see it right away.
🧠 Most Valuable Lesson: Play hard, have fun, and everything else will fall into place
🙏 Biggest Thank Yous:
To my family: Mom, Dad, and Gianna. Thank you for always showing up no matter the time or circumstance. Your support through the highs and lows kept me motivated.
To my coaches: Thank you for pushing us to be better players and better people.
And to my teammates: Thank you for the laughs, the memories, and ten unforgettable years. You’ve been family to me, and I wouldn’t trade that for anything.

Ben, your leadership, work ethic, and heart define what it means to wear the Panthers jersey. This team is better because of you. 🏒🐾
