That’s the reality for so many kids navigating an already difficult system. When I first learned this, it broke my heart—and it lit a fire in me.

That’s why I started Carry-On Hope, a nonprofit dedicated to providing children in foster care with quality luggage. Because no child should ever feel like their belongings—or their lives—are disposable.

This mission is deeply personal to me. It’s about restoring dignity, offering stability, and reminding kids that they are seen and valued.

March 23rd I turned 32 years old. Even though this isn’t a milestone birthday, I thought about how I want the next year of my life to go. I thought about my nonprofit, work, school, family, friends, health, and fitness and started to imagine how I could make the most of each of these things; while I did that, I took some time off from posting about the nonprofit because I felt overwhelmed and pre-defeated by the weight of it. But I had to remember, this task wasn’t just a project I decided to pick up; it was a task assigned to me by God or the universe, whatever you believe. It’s because of that I know I can’t fail. I’ve already been set up to succeed. All I have to do is take on the challenge.

With that being said, allow me to reintroduce myself. My name is Bri, founder of Carry-On Hope, a nonprofit dedicated to giving children in foster care something many of us take for granted—a suitcase of their own.

Too often, these children are forced to carry their belongings in trash bags. Our mission is simple: restore dignity, one bag at a time.

We’re on a mission to raise $5,000 to provide luggage and essentials for kids in foster care, and there’s still plenty of time to make it happen!

For my birthday this year, I wanted to do something meaningful, something that would make a real difference in the lives of children in foster care. That’s why we’re launching a fundraiser to raise $5,000 to support group homes in Cleveland by providing luggage, backpacks, and essential items to kids who often have little to call their own.
