Campfires only in developed campgrounds; none in wilderness. Smoking only in enclosed vehicles/buildings or cleared areas. No off‑road engines or open‑flame tools. Camp stoves with shut‑off valves allowed with a CA Campfire Permit in cleared areas. Get permits at https://permit.preventwildfiresca.org

SAVE THE DATE – July 11, 2026
Pacific Crest Trail group ride - Scott Mountain Summit to Masterson Meadow Lake
When: Saturday, July 11, 2026
Time: Arrive in time to ride out at 9:30 a.m.
Where: Ample trailer parking at Scott Mountain Summit at Siskiyou/Trinity county line where the PCT crosses Hwy. 3. More information about the trailhead, trail and route: https://explore.pcta.org/trips/scott-mountain-to-masterson-meadow
The ride: Out-and-back ride on the Pacific Crest Trail southbound to Masterson Meadows Lake, ~6.5 miles total. Terrain is moderate with a gradual elevation gain for the first 2 miles. Shoes or hoof boots are HIGHLY recommended for horses/mules as the trail is very rocky in some places. Ride is OK for all skill levels.
BCHC membership required? Yes. All attendees will need to sign a BCHC liability form. Not a member? Message us here to learn how to join or sign the membership paperwork and pay dues the day of the ride. $60 individual and $75 family annual dues.
Families welcome? Absolutely! Any riders age 17-under must wear a riding helmet.
Cost: Free!
Lunch: Bring with you in saddle bags. We'll take a break at the lake to eat.
RSVP required: No, but we’d love to hear from you if you plan to attend so we have a rough estimate of how many riders we can expect.

We're still celebrating our teamwork at Carter Meadows earlier this month! Here are the numbers we reported to the U.S. Forest Service - Klamath National Forest and Pacific Crest Trail Association. This collaboration included BCHC members from three different Units - Top of the State, Backcountry Horsemen of California Shasta-Trinity Unit and Sutter Buttes.
