Etna Lions Claw Back, But Fall Just Short Against Durham

In the first round of the North Region CIF State Baseball Tournament the Lions traveled to Durham, California to take on the Durham Trojans. The Durham Trojans jumped out to an early 3-0 on the Lions. After a slow start the Lions battled their way back scoring 2 runs in the 3rd Inning. Durham answered with a run of their own in the 3rd. The score remained 4-2 until the bottom of the 6th Inning when the Trojans managed to put up 3 additional runs. Despite a 5-run deficit in the top of the seventh inning, the Lions fought their way back scoring three runs on a double by Noah Hubbard, a double by Trey Bennett, and a double by Emmett Stacher. Despite these efforts the Lions fell to the Trojans 5 to 7 bringing their season to a close. The Lions ended their season as Champions of the Shasta Cascade League, NSCIF D-VI Champions, and first time qualifiers to the State Baseball Tournament.

Lions Take Home Section Championship!!!

Gage Stacher didn't allow a single run as the Etna Lions defeated the Chester Volcanoes 10-0 on Saturday to win the NSCIF Championship. Stacher captured his 3rd shut out of the season. The pitcher went five innings, allowing zero runs on five hits and striking out three. Stacher was backed up by solid defensive play led by freshman outfielder Ashton Elam. Elam had two spectacular catches in the outfield that kept the Volcano’s offense at bay. The Lions secured the victory thanks to an eight run inning in the fourth. The offensive firepower shown by the Lions was led by Emmitt Stacher, Emmitt Griggs, Jack Smiley, Noah Hubbard, Gage Stacher and Trey Bennett, who all sent runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Emmett Stacher went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Etna Lions in hits. The Lions ended the season with a 21-6 record and captured both an SCL title as well as a NSCIF title.
