This week we will receive a payout from the Giving Guest program, facilitated by the Estes Nonprofit Network. This program combines business, tourism, and philanthropy by encouraging visitors to "round up" to support local nonprofits. Thank you to the 2025 Giving Guest Business Partners that support the Conservation sector: Trendz At the Park, Backbone Adventures, Kind Coffee, Estes Park Mountain Shop, Taharaa Mountain Lodge, Black Canyon Inn, and Estes Park Condos.

We are grateful to receive support from the business community in Estes Park. Thank you!

Have you heard of Lincoln Hills? Learn about this historic mountain retreat at our breakfast event on July 19th. Located an hour south of Estes Park, Lincoln Hills was the first African American recreational resort west of the Mississippi River. Lincoln Hills was founded in 1922 to serve as a resort community created by Black Americans for Black Americans, during a time when the fight against segregation was a constant battle and when the Ku Klux Klan was at its peak. Lincoln Hills is now included on the National Register of Historic Places.

The event will be hosted at Eagle Rock School & Professional Development Center, where over 400 acres of land have been conserved by the land trust since 1993.

Congratulations to Eagle Rock School student AJ for winning 1st Place in our Student Environmental Film Festival! AJ was awarded a $4,000 scholarship, thanks to our event sponsor Bird & Jim and other anonymous donors. His excellent film can be viewed on the Estes Valley Land Trust YouTube page. Congratulations, AJ!

🎬🏆 We're thrilled to announce that Eagle Rock student AJ Saunders took 1st Prize at the 2025 Estes Valley Land Trust Student Environmental Film Festival for his powerful short film, Finding AJ! Special shoutout to Eagle Rock graduate Kai Sankofa who collaborated on the film.

📽️ AJ’s film—a deeply personal narrative that explores self-discovery and his connection with nature—captivated both the audience and the panel of local judges, earning AJ the top honor and a $4,000 academic scholarship.

This year's festival featured short films focusing on categories such as climate change, wildlife, equity, justice & inclusion, adventure & explorers, conservation & restoration, art & the environment, and our connection with nature. 🌲

We are so proud of AJ for using his voice and creativity to inspire others and bring environmental storytelling to life. đź’›

Check out our lineup of events; there’s something for everyone! This year’s activities include summer breakfasts at Eagle Rock School and Hermit Park Open Space, hikes on privately-owned conserved land, a sneak-peek of a future public open space, and a workshop focused on the proper use of herbicide to combat noxious weeds.

The list of events serves as a good “save the date” announcement so land trust members can mark their calendars and plan summer activities. Non-members who are interested in any of these events can join the land trust easily by visiting www.evlandtrust.org/donate. New members receive two free vouchers to summer breakfasts (a $40 value) and invitations to our events. Joining the land trust today will ensure you get an invitation to these events.

Each year, we try to secure matching funds for Colorado Gives Day to help your donation go further. We know our supporters want to make the largest impact possible through their giving, so we have some good news to share.

Two local donors have pooled their funds and generously pledged a $35,000 match challenge! This is our largest challenge ever, and we have no doubt that our supporters will step up and give generously to unlock this gift.

Donations to the Estes Valley Land Trust support a variety of programming. Thanks to donors like you, we continue conserving land, protect wildlife habitat, support landowners, and host unique educational events for our community.
