It took more than one table to hold 145+ years of Cheley experience!

This week, our 2026 directing staff and program leadershop gathered for a celebratory dinner during Director Training, bringing together leaders from every unit and a remarkable depth of camp knowledge, care, and commitment. Alongside many familiar faces were several new directors, whose energy, perspective, and enthusiasm are already strengthening the team.

Behind every unforgettable summer camp experience is a group of people dedicated to creating a safe, supportive, and growth-filled environment for campers and staff alike. As we prepare for another summer in the Colorado Rockies, we’re grateful for the returning leaders who carry forward Cheley’s traditions and the new leaders helping shape the future of camp.

Here’s to the conversations, collaboration, and shared vision that help make each summer at Cheley so meaningful!

Pre-camp dump 🧹☀️

The last week has been full of the work that makes camp feel a little more real!!

We’ve spent our days at the TEs setting up wagons, cleaning cabins, raking, dusting, organizing gear, and getting every corner ready for another summer in the Rockies. It’s not always the glamorous side of camp, but it’s all part of creating the spaces where friendships are built, challenges are conquered, and memories are made.

With each wagon we finish and each dusty cabin we wipe down, camp starts to feel a little more alive. We can’t wait to welcome the rest of our staff and campers home soon.

And yes, we know it’s Sunday. Sign Up Sunday will be back next week. We were too busy getting camp ready. 😉

It’s Sign-Up Sunday, and today we’re casting out. 🎣

There’s something about standing by the water that changes the pace of the day. The rhythm of the cast, the ripple on the pond, the quiet conversations that happen while waiting for a bite. That’s fishing at Cheley!

All units spend multiple half days fishing throughout the term, building skills and confidence at the Cheley Pond. Campers learn the basics of baiting a line, catch-and-release practices, and the patience that comes with waiting for the right moment to reel something in. And new this year, thanks to our pond restoration efforts, campers can now fly fish at the Cheley Pond, not just traditional catch-and-release fishing!t

Older units may also have the opportunity to participate in fly fishing trips, exploring local waters like Fish Creek and the North Fork Big Thompson River alongside trained guides from Sasquatch Fly Fishing. Whether they’re learning the casting arc for the first time or refining their technique, campers discover that fly fishing is equal parts skill, patience, and persistence.

Through our FunPlus® sign-up system, campers choose when fishing or fly fishing is part of their week.

✨ Sometimes the best camp moments happen while standing still.

📬 Yellow tags are officially in the mail, and that means camp is getting close. Just 24 days until 1st Term! 💛

Every bag coming to camp should have a yellow Cheley baggage tag attached, whether you’re flying, driving, or taking the bus. Duffels, backpacks, carry-ons, guitars, fishing poles, daypacks, if it’s coming to camp, tag it!

For campers flying into DEN, these tags help our baggage crew quickly spot and collect luggage from baggage claim, bring it to home base, and load it onto the buses to camp. Then, we double check that every bag makes it onto the bus, up to camp, and all the way to each camper’s unit.

Have you started packing yet? Consider this your official reminder to locate the giant duffel bag.🧳☀️

One of the first mornings where summer starts to feel real!

Pre-camp crew gathered for our first Morning Circle this week, kicking off the season together before the campers arrive. Now it’s time to rake trails, clean cabins, set up wagons, open up camp, and get every corner of Cheley ready for another unforgettable Colorado summer.

There’s a lot of work behind the scenes before overnight camp begins, and this crew is already bringing the energy, care, and community that make camp feel like home.
