The new boardwalk is coming along! 🥳🛠️🥾

Progress continues on the brand-new boardwalk at CREW Bird Rookery Swamp Trail! The foundation is being laid and the decking is starting to go in over completed areas! Very exciting! 🎉

As of this week, the contractor is ahead of schedule and is projecting the new boardwalk to be opened before the end of the year. ☀️

As a reminder, the loop and trail east of the boardwalk remain OPEN for recreational access from the Purple Trail at CREW Flint Pen Strand Trails

All About Aquifers 💧🌿🪨

Join us for a wet walk at CREW Flint Pen Strand Trails and explore the ecosystems that provide Southwest Florida’s drinking water🚰

On this walk, we’ll traverse a seasonal marsh, cypress swamp, and pine flatwood, three wetland ecosystems that help replenish our aquifers - the source of Southwest Florida’s drinking water 💧

Together, we’ll explore these unique ecosystems and discover just how important they are to our Southwest Florida community! 🌿

Today, we’re celebrating International Youth Day by announcing our spring field trips are officially FULL! 🥳

Every year, 800+ elementary students visit the CREW trails to explore the wild spaces right here in Southwest Florida! ☀️

During our fall program, Walk Through a Watershed, 3rd graders discover the critical role that aquifers and the wetlands that sustain them play in sustaining our Southwest Florida community 💧

On our spring field trip, Soil ROCKS!, 2nd graders learn to unearth the connections between the soil, plants, and wildlife of three Southwest Florida ecosystems at CREW! 🌿

Connecting Southwest Florida’s youth with the CREW lands is a core tenant of CREW Trust’s mission, and we can’t wait for another great year of field trips ahead doing just that! 🎉

👉 Teachers, we still have a few dates available for Walk Through a Watershed this fall! If you’re interested in bringing your class to CREW, email [email protected]

Both Soil ROCKS! and Walk through a Watershed are available at no cost to the schools thanks to the generosity of our CREW Trust members and sponsors! 🫶

Dust off your clubs, the golf tournament is right around the corner! 🏌️

CREW Trust’s 16th annual Stanley Hole Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, October 16th. The tournament will be the same great format supporting the same great cause but at an exciting new venue! 🥳

This year’s tournament will be held at the Bonita Bay Club’s Naples campus, located off Immokalee Road. Players will tackle the Cypress Course, an exclusive, Tom Fazio-designed 18-hole championship course featuring rolling fairways, undulating greens, unique bunkering, and stunning sweeping vistas ⛳️

This tournament is CREW Trust’s most important fundraiser of the year because it directly supports our environmental education programs! 🌿

Each year, CREW Trust’s trail-based environmental education programs host hundreds of children, young adults, and lifelong learners. These programs are designed to build a foundation of scientific and ecological literacy in participants and ultimately inspire them to use that knowledge to advocate for the continued preservation and stewardship of CREW

Our goal is to safely introduce youth and adults to wild spaces, establish positive associations with the natural world, stimulate curiosity and wonder, and nurture connections to the land and water on which we all depend!💧

By playing in and/or sponsoring this year’s tournament, you’re helping ensure CREW Trust can continue to offer the highest quality programs at no cost to children from throughout Lee, Collier and Hendry counties! 🫶

On behalf of the CREW Trust team, we’re looking forward to seeing you again this year! 🎉

It’s always a good day for a dissection at CREW! 🔎

Last month, Piper Jones, CREW Trust’s Education Coordinator, led a hands-on barn owl pellet dissection where participants unearthed bones, fur, teeth, and even a skull from the previous meals of our favorite nighttime flyers! 🦉

Owls use their special second stomachs, their gizzards, to compact the undigestible parts of their prey into pellets, which they then “cast” (vomit) back out. Most owls cast 1-2 pellets a day, and they serve as important predator controls on rodent populations! 🐀

Thank you to Piper for leading this immersive program, to the Bonita Springs Estero Realtors for hosting us, and to our fantastic participants for digging dissections as much as we do! 🥳

👉Next up: it’s all about alligators! Join us to learn about the dinosaurs of the swamp on Thursday, Aug 20 from 10:30 AM -12 PM! Tickets are available (and going fast!) at crewtrust.eventbrite.com
